Abstract

Quantum computing, even though it is still in its early stages, holds the potential to revolutionize the finance sector by providing efficient solutions to complex problems. This potential is evident in the direct correlation between key financial issues and the principles of quantum mechanics, such as the mathematical connection between the Black-Scholes-Merton formula and the Schrödinger equation.Nevertheless, quantum computing also brings about significant risks, notably threats to cybersecurity that could endanger systems like Blockchain.Financial institutions in the Netherlands, along with others worldwide, are beginning to contemplate these implications, making efforts to forecast the progress of quantum computing in order to adapt their operational strategies accordingly. This paper delves into the impact of quantum computing on finance, from the advantages in portfolio optimization, arbitrage, credit scoring, and fraud detection, to the challenges concerning the security of payment systems and the integrity of Blockchain.Additionally, potential solutions to these challenges are explored. The evolution of quantum computing necessitates a shift in focus towards less popular yet highly desirable applications that exhibit inherent complexity. These are the areas where quantum computers are anticipated to make a significant impact.

Quantum Finance: Revolutionizing Financial Markets with Quantum Computing

Manzoor Ansari, Aashita Chhabra, Nabeela Hasan +1 more

Quantum finance is a new paradigm in financial market operations, based on the principles of quantum computing in solving highly complex problems with efficiency. This chapter covers some basic ideas of quantum finance through its historical context and the role it has played in surmounting the limitations of classical financial models. The chapter commences with the basics, including the need for an introduction to quantum mechanics, qubits, quantum gates, and algorithms that can be applied in financial applications to demonstrate how quantum computing can change finance. We discuss some of those areas where this technology is bound to make an impact: in portfolio optimization, quantum computing considers several combinations of assets at a time; in risk management, improved models will allow for better predictions of market movements; in derivative pricing, the calculations are faster and more accurate; and in fraud detection, it enables one to execute better analysis of transactional data. The advancement of quantum finance is linked to the need to resolve ethical, legal, and technical obstacles while integrating with traditional financial institutions. The financial markets will be a key source of innovation that will drive efficiency, precision, and invention to previously unheard-of heights, given the direction that quantum computing technology is expected to take. Thus, the chapter ends with a call for more study and cooperation to fully grasp quantum finance's transformative potential.

Quantum Finance: Exploring the Implications of Quantum Computing on Financial Models

Jiawei Zhou

Quantum computing is revolutionizing computational methods in finance by enhancing efficiency and accuracy in financial modeling and risk management. This review explores the impact of quantum computing in finance, focusing on derivative pricing, risk management, and portfolio optimization. It analyzes the benefits, limitations, and future implications of integrating quantum technologies with classical financial systems. A comprehensive review of quantum Monte Carlo methods, quantum algorithms, and their financial applications was conducted. Theoretical foundations, including Chebyshev’s inequality and Grover’s search method, were evaluated for their role in enhancing sampling efficiency and predictive accuracy. Empirical studies and use cases demonstrate the practical implications of quantum computing in pricing financial derivatives and managing risk through Value at Risk and Conditional Value at Risk assessments. The critical findings reveal that Quantum Monte Carlo algorithms provide substantial efficiency gains, reducing sample size requirements by up to fourfold compared to classical methods. Techniques employed in prior studies highlight the effectiveness of Quantum Amplitude Estimation for derivative pricing and risk analysis. However, challenges persist in scalability, data quality, integration with classical systems, and compliance with regulatory standards. This research contributes to the current body of knowledge by providing a comprehensive analysis of quantum algorithms’ practical applications in derivative pricing, risk management, and portfolio optimization, demonstrating the efficiency gains and limitations of quantum approaches. Future research should explore hybrid quantum–classical frameworks, quantum applications in blockchain, and enhanced quantum cryptography to ensure secure and efficient financial transactions.

Quantum Leap in Finance: Economic Advantages, Security, and Post-Quantum Readiness

Gerhard Hellstern, Esra Yeniaras

This paper provides an in-depth review of the evolving role of quantum computing in the financial sector, emphasizing both its computational potential and cybersecurity implications. Distinguishing itself from existing surveys, this work integrates classical quantum computing applications - such as portfolio optimization, risk analysis, derivative pricing, and Monte Carlo simulations with a thorough examination of blockchain technologies and post-quantum cryptography (PQC), which are crucial for maintaining secure financial operations in the emerging quantum era. We propose a structured four-step framework to assess the feasibility and expected benefits of implementing quantum solutions in finance, considering factors such as computational scalability, error tolerance, data complexity, and practical implementability. This framework is applied to a series of representative financial scenarios to identify domains where quantum approaches can surpass classical techniques. Furthermore, the paper explores the vulnerabilities quantum computing introduces to digital finance-related applications and blockchain security, including risks to digital signatures, hash functions, and randomness generation, and discusses mitigation strategies through PQC and quantum-resilient alternatives of classical digital finance tools and blockchain architectures. By addressing both quantum blockchain, quantum key distribution (QKD) as well as quantum communication networks, his review presents a more holistic perspective than prior studies, offering actionable insights for researchers, financial practitioners, and policymakers navigating the intersection of quantum computing, blockchain, and secure financial systems.
