The exploration of fundamental quantum phenomena, such as entanglement and Bell inequality violations—extensively studied in low-energy regimes—has recently extended to high-energy particle collisions. Experimentally, Bell inequality violations, which challenge Einstein’s principle of local realism, were first observed in low-energy entangled photon systems by A. Aspect, J. F. Clauser, and A. Zeilinger, earning them the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics. Particle colliders provide a novel setting for probing quantum information theory, operating at energies over 10 orders of magnitude higher than previous experiments and in the presence of electroweak and strong interactions. Additionally, collider detectors offer unique advantages for quantum state reconstruction via quantum state tomography. This book chapter reviews key theoretical and experimental advancements in this emerging field, highlighting its challenges, objectives, and potential impact on both quantum information theory and high-energy physics.
Quantum entanglement represents one of the most profound and counterintuitive phenomena in modern physics, fundamentally challenging classical notions of locality, causality, and separability. This comprehensive review examines the theoretical foundations of quantum entanglement, tracing its conceptual development from Einstein's critique of quantum mechanics through Bell's theorem to contemporary experimental verification. The paper synthesizes current understanding of entanglement's mathematical formalism, its role in violating Bell inequalities, and the resolution of the EPR paradox. Extensive discussion is devoted to landmark experiments that have conclusively demonstrated non-local correlations, including photon polarization studies, satellite-based quantum communication, and loophole-free Bell tests. The work further explores emerging technological applications in quantum cryptography, quantum computing, and quantum teleportation, while addressing fundamental questions regarding the nature of reality, information, and the relationship between quantum mechanics and general relativity. Finally, the paper examines open questions and speculative frameworks suggesting that entanglement may represent a foundational principle underlying spacetime geometry itself. The exploration extends into the realms of quantum communication networks, quantum-enhanced imaging, and quantum-resistant cryptography, providing a comprehensive overview of the diverse applications emerging from the principles of superposition. This paper concludes with a contemplative look toward the future, emphasizing the ongoing challenges and endless possibilities that quantum superpositioning presents. As we navigate through the quantum landscape, the intersections of theory and innovation redefine our understanding of reality and open new frontiers in science and technology. Quantum superpositioning stands as a guiding thread, weaving together the rich tapestry of quantum mechanics, inspiring continued exploration and discovery.
We explore aspects of perturbative quantum field theory towards the goal of illuminating features of quantum gravity. In Chapter 1, we begin with the color-kinematic duality, a surprising relationship between gauge theoretic and kinematic properties of scattering amplitudes that, via the double-copy property, leads to a deep connection between gauge theory and gravity. We investigate the relationship between the color-kinematic duality and amplitude relations in ABJM theory and find that the duality is satisfied eight points without associated amplitude relations present in all other known instances of the duality. In Chapter 2, we derive a basic consistency check for AdS3/CFT2, a tractable example of the well-known AdS/CFT duality. We show that, under certain mild assumptions on the light spectrum of the CFT, CFT correlators of light operators match those computed in AdS perturbatively in 1/N: in a black hole background for high temperatures, and in thermal AdS for low temperatures. Next we turn to entanglement entropy, an information-theoretic quantity that in the CFT may encode dual AdS geometry. Time-dependent entanglement entropy has been studied for generic excited states. However, localized unitary operators in particular are in correspondence with Hamiltonian perturbations, and are basic building blocks of local excitations. In Chapter 3, we detail these operators' locality properties as well as the differences between excited states created by Hermitian operators and those created with localized unitary operators. In Chapter 4, we initiate the perturbative exploration of entanglement entropy with a time-dependent Hamiltonian, computing past first order in perturbation theory. We find a universal structure of entanglement propagation: interactions entangle unentangled excitations according to entanglement diagrams that track the flow of entanglement. We provide diagrammatic tools to simplify computations of loop entanglement diagrams.
This thesis explores entanglement entropy, the black hole information paradox, and applications of physics-informed deep learning, with the Anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence serving as a central framework. The first part examines entanglement islands as a possible resolution to the information paradox. Islands are surfaces in spacetime that contribute to purifying Hawking radiation in semi-classical gravity. We derive the entanglement entropy for annular entangling regions on d-dimensional AdS black hole backgrounds, and show that islands are highly sensitive to the underlying field theory modeling radiation - not only in details but in their very existence. Furthermore, we show how inhomogeneous transformations of entanglement entropy, via the replica trick, encode details about island formation, reflected in the stress tensor on both replica and base manifolds. We also introduce a framework for computing replica corrections to the thermal stress tensor, with intrinsic interest. To make contact with islands in positively curved spacetimes, we construct a multiverse model using T2-deformed dS wedge holography with dS Jackiw–Teitelboim gravity on infrared end-of-the-world branes, where finite-cutoff observers recover Page curves via islands. The second part investigates physics-informed neural networks (PINNs), which embed physical laws into the loss function. Motivated by the challenge of evaluating holographic entanglement entropy with sparse boundary data, we apply Bayesian PINNs (B-PINNs) to solve the corresponding nonlinear PDEs. The latter exemplifies high-energy theory complexities, extending PINNs beyond traditional engineering uses. We examine overconfidence in these models, attributing it to physical priors in the loss rather than miscalibration, and introduce diagnostic tools to assess this effect. Further, Hessian decomposition reveals how constraints hierarchically influence network behavior and shape the solution space, in a non-trivial way when varying with loss weight adjustments.
Quantum entanglement, the phenomenon whereby two or more quantum systems exhibit correlations that cannot be explained by any local hidden-variable theory, has evolved from a philosophical curiosity debated by Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen in 1935 into the foundational resource of an emerging technological revolution. This narrative review traces the conceptual development of entanglement from the EPR paradox through Bell's theorem, the experimental violation of Bell inequalities, and the emergence of quantum information science as a unifying framework. Drawing on the original EPR argument, Bell's seminal 1964 theorem, the experimental work of Aspect et al., the quantum information synthesis of Nielsen and Chuang, the review of entanglement theory by Horodecki et al., and the foundational perspectives of Brukner and Zeilinger, the review covers the mathematical characterization of entanglement, its role in quantum computation and quantum cryptography, and the ongoing debate about the interpretation of quantum mechanics that entanglement continues to fuel.
