Shallow Depth Factoring Based on Quantum Feasibility Labeling and Variational Quantum Search

Imran Khan Tutul, Sara Karimi, Soltaninia, Mohammadreza +1 more

Large integer factorization is a prominent research challenge, particularly in the context of quantum computing. This holds significant importance, especially in information security that relies on public key cryptosystems. The classical computation of prime factors for an integer has exponential time complexity. Quantum computing offers the potential for significantly faster computational processes compared to classical processors. In this paper, we propose a new quantum algorithm, Shallow Depth Factoring (SDF), to factor a biprime integer. SDF consists of three steps. First, it converts a factoring problem to an optimization problem without an objective function. Then, it uses a Quantum Feasibility Labeling (QFL) method to label every possible solution according to whether it is feasible or infeasible for the optimization problem. Finally, it employs the Variational Quantum Search (VQS) to find all feasible solutions. The SDF utilizes shallow-depth quantum circuits for efficient factorization, with the circuit depth scaling linearly as the integer to be factorized increases. Through minimizing the number of gates in the circuit, the algorithm enhances feasibility and reduces vulnerability to errors.

Resiliency analysis and improvement of variational quantum factoring in superconducting qubit

Ling Qiu, Mahabubul Alam, Abdullah Ash Saki +1 more

Variational algorithm using Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) can solve the prime factorization problem in near-term noisy quantum computers. Conventional Variational Quantum Factoring (VQF) requires a large number of 2-qubit gates (especially for factoring a large number) resulting in deep circuits. The output quality of the deep quantum circuit is degraded due to errors limiting the computational power of quantum computing. In this paper, we explore various transformations to optimize the QAOA circuit for integer factorization. We propose two criteria to select the optimal quantum circuit that can improve the noise resiliency of VQF.

Quantum Computing Algorithms for Integer Factorization: A Comparative Analysis

Nadia Ahmed

The field of quantum computing has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years, particularly in its potential applications to solve computationally hard problems such as integer factorization. a comparative analysis of quantum computing algorithms for integer factorization, focusing on their theoretical foundations, computational complexity, and practical implications. We review prominent algorithms such as Shor's algorithm, which leverages quantum parallelism and period finding to efficiently factor large composite integers, and compare them with classical factorization algorithms like the General Number Field Sieve (GNFS). Through a comprehensive examination of algorithmic strategies, runtime complexities, and quantum circuit implementations, we assess the relative strengths and limitations of quantum computing approaches for integer factorization. Furthermore, we discuss potential challenges and future research directions in harnessing the power of quantum computing to address cryptographic security and algorithmic complexity in the era of post-quantum cryptography.
