Abstract

Quantum computation and quantum information have sparked tremendous interest across a wide range of scientific disciplines, from physics to chemistry and engineering, as well as computer science, mathematics, and statistics. Data science is the application of statistical methodologies, computer algorithms, and domain scientific data to extract knowledge and insights from large amounts of data and solve complicated real-world issues. As a result, quantum machine learning has carved itself a distinct niche in the world of computers. When the potential of quantum computing characteristics is employed for machine learning, quantum technology advances to an advanced degree. When quantum computing capabilities are incorporated into standard methods, they give extraordinary parallel computing power for addressing complicated problems. The core of this work is a comparison of the fundamental principles of quantum computing and their superiority over traditional computing. This paper discusses application-based algorithms including QSVM, QPCA, and Q-KNN, as well as Grover's algorithm, the most common and foundational quantum machine learning technique.

When Quantum Computation Meets Data Science: Making Data Science Quantum

Yazhen Wang

Quantum computation and quantum information have attracted considerable attention on multiple frontiers of scientific fields ranging from physics to chemistry and engineering, as well as from computer science to mathematics and statistics. Data science combines statistical methods, computational algorithms, and domain science information to extract knowledge and insights from big data, and to solve complex real-world problems. While it is well-known that quantum computation has the potential to revolutionize data science, much less has been said about the potential of data science to advance quantum computation. Yet because the stochasticity of quantum physics renders quantum computation random, data science can play an important role in the development of quantum computation and quantum information. This article gives an overview of quantum computation and promotes interplay between quantum science and data science. Overall, it advocates for the development of quantum data science for advancing quantum computation and quantum information.

A Detailed Overview of Quantum Computing Machine Learning Techniques

Ada Aggarwal, S Vikram Singh, Saloni Bansal +1 more

The computing sector has undergone radical changes in the last few decades. Conventional computers use binary (1s and 0s) numbers to perform tasks that are specified by the user. Using the concepts of quantum physics, a unique method known as “quantum computing” addresses problems that are too complicated for conventional computing devices. Two of the scientific fields with the fastest growth rates in today's time are machine learning and quantum computing. Researchers have recently initiated investigations into the ways in which conventional machine learning methods can be improved by quantum computing. Quantum machine learning comprises hybrid approaches that combine quantum and classical algorithms, using quantum methods to evaluate quantum states rather than traditional data. Current data science techniques could be significantly improved by quantum algorithms. In this work, we summarize the contributions made by different researchers in the domain of Quantum Learning and then look at some of the methods related to its real-world uses.

Machine Learning in the Quantum Era

Sachin Khurana, Manisha J. Nene

Machine Learning (ML) has been extensively utilized in various scientific and engineering domains. But the inherent constraints and computational complexity that arise in classical machine learning are particularly evident when dealing with large-scale, high-dimensional datasets or when attempting to solve intricate optimisation problems. Quantum systems exhibit unconventional patterns that are typically not effectively generated by traditional systems and can also tackle high dimensional and large size datasets efficiently. Therefore, it is believed that quantum computing systems may outperform traditional computing devices in machine learning tasks. Quantum Machine Learning (QML) has emerged as a rapidly developing field that combines the concepts of quantum mechanics and machine learning to solve complex problems across various disciplines. The domain of quantum machine learning investigates the development and execution of quantum software with the potential to facilitate machine learning at a much superior pace compared to traditional computers. However, the major challenges encountered are hardware limitations, noise, and development of quantum algorithms. The objective of this paper is to provide an insight on the foundational principles, essential algorithms, various associated platforms, potential applications and challenges being faced by QML. As data continues to grow in size and complexity, together with the emergence of nonlinear and high-dimensional real-world situations, the computing benefits offered by QML have the potential to facilitate significant advancements in the fields of healthcare, finance, robotics, logistics, communication, and cyber security. This paper presents the basis for future research work related to development of quantum algorithms in the domain of machine learning.

Quantum Machine Learning Algorithms for Big Data Processing

Sarah L. Johnson

Quantum Machine Learning (QML) is a new discipline that unites artificial intelligence and quantum computing and can address computational problems of big data analysis. Traditional machine learning algorithms may be pushed to their limits in dealing with the increased complexity and scale of today's data sets and thus are unable to find useful insights within a reasonable time frame. Quantum computing, capable of tapping quantum mechanical processes like superposition and entanglement, is capable of turning this field upside down. In this paper, the concepts behind quantum computing are discussed and how machine learning could be used using the assistance of quantum algorithms in order to better deal with big data. It explains the most optimal quantum algorithms like Quantum Support Vector Machines (QSVM), Quantum Principal Component Analysis (QPCA), and Quantum k-Means Clustering, and why they are better and faster compared to their classical counterparts. It also explores actual applications in medicine, finance, and artificial intelligence. It also addresses the limits and disadvantages of existing quantum technology like hardware limitations, noise, and complexity of algorithms. Last but not least, it also considers the future direction of trends within the field, with emphasis placed on hybrid quantum-classical systems and quantum machine learning application within the construction of big data analysis.

Quantum computing, with its foundational principles of superposition and entanglement, has the potential to provide significant quantum advantages, addressing challenges that classical computing may struggle to overcome. As data generation continues to grow exponentially and technological advancements accelerate, classical machine learning algorithms increasingly face difficulties in solving complex real-world problems. The integration of classical machine learning with quantum information processing has led to the emergence of quantum machine learning, a promising interdisciplinary field. This work provides the reader with a bottom-up view of quantum circuits starting from quantum data representation, quantum gates, the fundamental quantum algorithms, and more complex quantum processes. Thoroughly studying the mathematics behind them is a powerful tool to guide scientists entering this domain and exploring their connection to quantum machine learning. Quantum algorithms such as Shor’s algorithm, Grover’s algorithm, and the Harrow–Hassidim–Lloyd (HHL) algorithm are discussed in detail. Furthermore, real-world implementations of quantum machine learning and quantum deep learning are presented in fields such as healthcare, bioinformatics and finance. These implementations aim to enhance time efficiency and reduce algorithmic complexity through the development of more effective quantum algorithms. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of these algorithms is crucial.
