Abstract

The authors report experimental studies of conditional uncertainty relations in terms of majorization in the presence of quantum memory. They also demonstrate an application of the conditional majorization uncertainty relation in witnessing quantum steerability.

Conditional uncertainty principle

Gilad Gour, Andrzej Grudka, Michał Horodecki +3 more

We develop a general operational framework that formalizes the concept of conditional uncertainty in a measure-independent fashion. Our formalism is built upon a mathematical relation which we call conditional majorization. We define conditional majorization and, for the case of classical memory, we provide its thorough characterization in terms of monotones, i.e., functions that preserve the partial order under conditional majorization. We demonstrate the application of this framework by deriving two types of memory-assisted uncertainty relations, (1) a monotone-based conditional uncertainty relation and (2) a universal measure-independent conditional uncertainty relation, both of which set a lower bound on the minimal uncertainty that Bob has about Alice's pair of incompatible measurements, conditioned on arbitrary measurement that Bob makes on his own system. We next compare the obtained relations with their existing entropic counterparts and find that they are at least independent.

Strong majorization uncertainty relations and experimental verifications

Yuan Yuan, Yunlong Xiao, Zhibo Hou +5 more

Abstract In spite of enormous theoretical and experimental progress in quantum uncertainty relations, the experimental investigation of the most current, and universal formalism of uncertainty relations, namely majorization uncertainty relations (MURs), has not been implemented yet. A major problem is that previous studies of majorization uncertainty relations mainly focus on their mathematical expressions, leaving the physical interpretation of these different forms unexplored. To address this problem, we employ a guessing game formalism to reveal physical differences between diverse forms of majorization uncertainty relations. Furthermore, we tighter the bounds of MURs by using flatness processes. Finally, we experimentally verify strong MURs in the photonic system to benchmark our theoretical results.

Experimental test of the majorization uncertainty relation with mixed states

Shuang Wang, Fang-Xia Meng, Hui Wang +1 more

The uncertainty relation lies at the heart of quantum theory and behaves as a non-classical constraint on the indeterminacies of incompatible observables in a system. In the literature, many experiments have been devoted to the test of the uncertainty relations which mainly focus on the pure states. In this work we test the novel majorization uncertainty relations of three incompatible observables using a series of mixed states with adjustable mixing degrees, and compare the compactness of various entropy uncertainty relations. The experimental results confirm that for general mixed quantum system, the majorization uncertainty relation tends to be the tightest constraint on uncertainty, and indicate that the entropy uncertainty relation obtained from the majorization uncertainty relation is the optimal one. Our experimental setup provides an easy means for preparing mixed states, and based on this simple optical elements can be utilized to realize the required quantum states.

An Optimal Measurement Strategy to Beat the Quantum Uncertainty in Correlated System

Jun‐Li Li, Cong‐Feng Qiao

Abstract Uncertainty principle is an inherent nature of quantum system that undermines the precise measurement of incompatible observables and hence the applications of quantum theory. Entanglement, another unique feature of quantum physics, may help to reduce the quantum uncertainty. In this paper, a practical method is proposed to reduce the one party measurement uncertainty by determining the measurement on the other party of an entangled bipartite system. In light of this method, a family of conditional majorization uncertainty relations in the presence of quantum memory is constructed, which is applicable to arbitrary number of observables. The new family of uncertainty relations implies sophisticated structures of quantum uncertainty and non‐locality, that are usually studied by using scalar measures. Applications to reduce the local uncertainty and to witness quantum non‐locality are also presented.
