Quantum theory does not explain photon interference in double-slit experiments.

Abstract

Abstract In a modified double-slit apparatus, the laser beam was halved by a physical barrier, isolating the two halves around the slits. This design eliminates the supposed quantum-mechanical field interaction as a cause of interference. Our study challenges the quantum interpretation of double-slit interference.

Quantum mechanics fails to explain double-slit photon interference.

Janusz Wiktor Rajkowski

Abstract In a modified double-slit experiment, a laser beam is split evenly by a wall that separates the two half-beams around the slits. This setup continues to generate a standard double-slit pattern of interference. The experiment is ruling out the feasibility of interference through quantum superposition.

On New Phenomena of Photon from Modified Double Slit Experiment

Haisheng Liu

A modified double slit experiment of light was implemented. In the experiment, a spatial shape filter is used to manipulate the shape of cross section of laser beam. When this modified laser beam was shined on the double slit, the intensity distribution of laser beam on double slit is asymmetrical. In this way, the laser light was directed to pass through only one or two slits of double slit in different sections. So the which-way information is predetermined before the photons pass through the slits. At the same time, the visible interference pattern can be observed on a monitor screen after the double slit. A couple of new phenomena had been observed from this experiment. The results of this experiment raise questions about Wave-Particle Duality model of quantum theory, which is the foundation for the Copenhagen explanation that is generally regarded as the principal interpretation of quantum theory. As the observed properties from this experiment cannot be fully explained using the quantum theory, especially the Copenhagen explanation, a new model of photon is proposed. The new model for photon should be also applicable to all other micro entity like electron, atoms, molecules etc., according to L. de Broglie assumption.

Should We Interpret Quantum Mechanics According to Bohr

Shubhayan Sarkar

I present here a thought experiment which violates the most widely accepted interpretation of quantum mechanics “The Copenhagen Interpretation” and Bohr’s complementarity which says that there is no meaning of the state of a particle until it is observed and the act of observation might change it. The experiment consists of a double slit apparatus which is modified by putting a second double slit apparatus between the source and the original apparatus with certain conditions imposed on both the apparatuses using the facts of interference and diffraction. A striking paradox emerges if we consider the arguments of Bohr’s complementarity, i.e. the photon travels through both the paths simultaneously in a double slit apparatus whenever there is interference. It turns out that this paradox can be resolved only if the photon travels through one path even if interference fringes are visible.

Photon Chamber --- Exploring Mystery of Double Slit Experiments

hui peng

Young’s double slit experiments, which represent the mystery of quantum mechanics, have been described by the optic wave theory, the electromagnetic wave (EM wave) theory and pilot wave theory. Recently, the coexistence of the particle nature and the wave distribution of light in double slit experiments has been confirmed. In this article we utilize the photon chamber to detect the traces of the light beam in the double slit experiments, namely to visualize the particle nature of the light beam, while the wave-like distribution is visualized by the interference pattern. The existence of the light tracks indicates the particle nature of the light beam in the wave experiments. Furthermore, we cover the two sides of the chamber by copper foil for shielding the electromagnetic (EM) wave. If the light beams were the EM waves, then the interference pattern would be disturbed. The experiments show that the light behave as particles moving through the photon chamber, while distribute as wave without being disturbed. Thus, the double slit photon chamber experiments visually challenge the optical wave theory, EM wave theory, but support the pilot wave theory at far field. The experiments in this article confirm the conclusions of the previous modified double slit experiments. But, the experimental devices, experimental setups and experimental observations are totally different. The experiments in this article make the mystery of the double slit experiments even more mysterious. The photon chamber is inexpensive and may be used to study the nature of the light.

Revisiting self-interference in double-slit experiments

S. Kim, Byoung Seung HAM

Over the past several decades, single photon-based path interference in double-slit experiment has been well demonstrated for the particle nature of photons satisfying complementarity theory, where the quantum mechanical interpretation of the single photon interference fringe is given by Born rule for complex amplitudes in measurements. Unlike most conventional methods using entangled photon pairs, here, a classical coherent light source is directly applied for the proof of the same self-interference phenomenon. Instead of double slits, we use a Mach-Zehnder interferometer as usual, where the resulting self-interference fringe of coherent single photons is exactly the same as that of the coherent photon ensemble of the laser, demonstrating that the classical coherence based on the wave nature is rooted in the single photon self-interference. This unexpected result seems to contradict our common understanding of decoherence phenomena caused by multi-wave interference among bandwidth distributed photons in coherence optics.
