Abstract

Coherence-assisted transformation under incoherent operations is discussed. For transformation from the pure state to the mixed state, we show that the coherence loss can be partially recovered by adding auxiliary coherent states. First, we discuss the coherence-assisted transformation for qubit states and give the sufficient and necessary condition for the partial recovery of coherence loss, and the maximum of the recovery of coherence loss is also studied in this case. Second, the maximally coherent state can be obtained in the above recovery scheme, so we give the full characterization of obtaining the maximally coherent state in a qubit system. Finally, we show that the coherence-assisted transformation for arbitrary finite-dimensional main coherent states and low-dimensional auxiliary coherent states is always possible, and the coherence loss also can be partially recovered in these cases.

Reduce coherence loss in coherence-assisted transformation

Hai‐Bo Xing, Ming Yang

We discuss the coherence-assisted transformation of pure coherent states under incoherent operations and show that the amount of coherence loss can be reduced with the help of the auxiliary coherent state. Starting with the simplest case i.e., the main coherent state and auxiliary coherent state are both 2×2 dimensional, we compare the change of coherence before and after the transformation and find that the amount of coherence loss can be reduced due to the increase of the coherence of auxiliary coherent state. In general, when the main coherent state and auxiliary coherent state are high-dimensional, the result is also true. For the coherence of auxiliary coherent state is increased, we can get the maximally coherent state at some conditions, this case can be viewed as a new way for the distillation of coherent state. These interesting results of coherence transformation will give us a better understanding of the resource manipulation.

Partial coherence versus entanglement

Sunho Kim, Chunhe Xiong, Shunlong Luo +2 more

We study partial coherence and its connection with entanglement. First, we provide a sufficient and necessary condition for bipartite pure-state transformation under partially incoherent operations: A bipartite pure state can be transformed to another one if and only if a majorization relationship holds between their partial coherence vectors. As a consequence, we introduce the concept of maximal partial coherent states in the sense that they can be used to construct any bipartite state of the same system via partial incoherent operations. Second, we provide a strategy to construct measures of partial coherence by use of symmetric concave functions. Third, we establish the relationship between partial coherence and entanglement. We show that the minimal partial coherence under local unitary transformations is also a measure of entanglement for bipartite pure states, which can be extended to all mixed states by convex-roof extension. Conversely, every entanglement measure can be constructed as a partial coherence measure, and we further show that partial coherence measures are induced through maximal entanglement under partially incoherent operations for bipartite pure states.

Partial recovery of quantum entanglement

Runyao Duan, Yuan Feng, Mingsheng Ying

Suppose Alice and Bob try to transform an entangled state shared between them into another one by local operations and classical communications. Then in general a certain amount of entanglement contained in the initial state will decrease in the process of transformation. However, an interesting phenomenon called partial entanglement recovery shows that it is possible to recover some amount of entanglement by adding another entangled state and transforming the two entangled states collectively. In this paper, we are mainly concerned with the feasibility of partial entanglement recovery. The basic problem we address is whether a given state is useful in recovering entanglement lost in a specified transformation. In the case where the source and target states of the original transformation satisfy the strict majorization relation, a necessary and sufficient condition for partial entanglement recovery is obtained. For the general case we give two sufficient conditions. We also give an efficient algorithm for the feasibility of partial entanglement recovery in polynomial time. As applications, we establish some interesting connections between partial entanglement recovery and the generation of maximally entangled states, quantum catalysis, mutual catalysis, and multiple-copy entanglement transformation.

Enhancing coherence of a state by stochastic strictly incoherent operations

C. L. Liu, Yanqing Guo, D. M. Tong

In this paper, we address the issue of enhancing coherence of a state under stochastic strictly incoherent operations. Based on the ${l}_{1}$ norm of coherence, we obtain the maximal value of coherence that can be achieved for a state undergoing a stochastic strictly incoherent operation and the maximal probability of obtaining the maximal coherence. Our findings indicate that a pure state can be transformed into a maximally coherent state under a stochastic strictly incoherent operation if and only if all the components of the pure state are nonzero while a mixed state can never be transformed into a maximally coherent state under a stochastic strictly incoherent operation.

Catalytic coherence transformations

Kaifeng Bu, Uttam Singh, Junde Wu

Catalytic coherence transformations allow the otherwise impossible state transformations using only incoherent operations with the aid of an auxiliary system with finite coherence that is not being consumed in any way. Here we find the necessary and sufficient conditions for the deterministic and stochastic catalytic coherence transformations between a pair of pure quantum states. In particular, we show that the simultaneous decrease of a family of R\'enyi entropies of the diagonal parts of the states under consideration is a necessary and sufficient condition for the deterministic catalytic coherence transformations. Similarly, for stochastic catalytic coherence transformations we find the necessary and sufficient conditions for achieving a higher optimal probability of conversion. We thus completely characterize the coherence transformations among pure quantum states under incoherent operations. We give numerous examples to elaborate our results. We also explore the possibility of the same system acting as a catalyst for itself and find that indeed self-catalysis is possible. Further, for the cases where no catalytic coherence transformation is possible we provide entanglement-assisted coherence transformations and find the necessary and sufficient conditions for such transformations.

Deterministic Coherence Distillation

C. L. Liu, D. L. Zhou

Coherence distillation is one of the central problems in the resource theory of coherence. In this Letter, we complete the deterministic distillation of quantum coherence for a finite number of coherent states under strictly incoherent operations. Specifically, we find the necessary and sufficient condition for the transformation from a mixed coherent state into a pure state via strictly incoherent operations, which recovers a connection between the resource theory of coherence and the algebraic theory of majorization lattice. With the help of this condition, we present the deterministic coherence distillation scheme and derive the maximum number of maximally coherent states obtained via this scheme.
