Abstract

We present and characterize a source of spectrally multimode squeezed state of light at telecom wavelengths. The state is made out of a periodically-poled waveguide (PPKTP) pumped by a femtosecond laser.

Multimode squeezed state for reconfigurable quantum networks at telecommunication wavelengths

Victor Roman Rodriguez, David Fainsin, Guilherme Luiz Zanin +3 more

Continuous variable encoding of quantum information requires the deterministic generation of highly correlated quantum states of light in the form of quantum networks, which, in turn, necessitates the controlled generation of a large number of squeezed modes. In this paper, we present an experimental source of multimode squeezed states of light at telecommunication wavelengths. Generation at such wavelengths is especially important as it can enable quantum information processing, communication, and sensing beyond the laboratory scale. We use a single-pass spontaneous parametric down-conversion process in a nonlinear waveguide pumped with the second harmonic of a femtosecond laser. Our measurements reveal significant squeezing in more than 21 frequency modes, with a maximum squeezing value exceeding 2.5 dB. We demonstrate multiparty entanglement by measuring the state's covariance matrix. Finally, we show the source reconfigurability by preparing few-node cluster states and measure their nullifier squeezing level. These results pave the way for a scalable implementation of continuous variable quantum information protocols at telecommunication wavelengths, particularly for multiparty, entanglement-based quantum communications. Moreover, the source is compatible with additional pulse-by-pulse multiplexing, which can be utilized to construct the necessary three-dimensional entangled structures for quantum computing protocols. Preparation of Multi-channel Photon Pairs in a Periodically Poled Potassium Titanyl Phosphate Waveguide

Guo Guang-Can

A scheme to generate multi-channel photon pairs is presented, based on a periodically poled(PP) Potassium Titanyl Phosphate(KTP) waveguide via spontaneous parametric downconversion(SPDC).Type-II and type-I phase matching cases with a pulsed and a cw pump laser are discussed respectively. It is analytically shown that several photon pairs could be generated in a single type-II PPKTP waveguide, and the wavelengths of all photon pairs are in the telecom band.In type-I case, several photon pairs can be prepared, but one photon of each pair is not in telecom band. And,a multi-channel photon pairs source could be realized.

Heralded telecom single photons from a visible–telecom pair source on a hybrid PPKTP–PIC platform

Vijay Soorya Shunmuga Sundaram, Evan Manfreda-Schulz, Todd Hawthorne +11 more

We present a heralded photon-pair source using periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (PPKTP) waveguides coupled with photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The PPKTP generates correlated visible–telecom photon pairs, processed by the dual-band silicon and silicon nitride PIC. Heralding at visible wavelengths removes the need for large superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs). Silicon Mach–Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) on the PIC modulate the telecom single photons and also serve as pump-rejection filters. We demonstrate an insertion loss of 2.37 ± 1.03 dB (4.46 ± 1.32 dB) at the visible (telecom) wavelength between the PPKTP waveguides and PIC edge couplers, and an on-chip pump suppression of 92.5 ± 2.5 dB. This platform will enable remote quantum nodes to securely communicate over telecom fiber-optic networks.

We theoretically demonstrate the generation of spectrally pure (purity ~ 95%) heralded single photons, and also broadband (~60-nm around 1550-nm) polarization-entangled photon pairs (concurrence>0.96), at telecom wavelengths via extensive dispersion engineering in silicon nano-waveguides.
