Abstract

Abstract With the progress of communication technology, the increasing wireless devices are hooked up the networks, and the consequent security problems cannot be ignored. At present, the solutions mainly include secret key system and physical layer security (PLS). However, secret key system that relies on highly complex algorithms for encryption and decryption still has the risk of being cracked by powerful computers. In this paper, the PLS of Beaulieu‐Xie fading channels is studied. To improve the transmission quality and support higher speed data transmission, the single‐input multiple‐out (SIMO) system considered is the Wyner eavesdropper model with decoding and forwarding (DF) relay over Beaulieu‐Xie fading. The closed‐form theoretical formulas for secure outage probability (SOP) and strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are obtained by complex unified functional representation, which includes two cases: and . Moreover, the theoretical formulas are verified by Monte Carlo results. By comparing the simulation results with the theoretical analysis, the authors discussed the factors to improve the secure performance. Experiments show that the larger ratio of , the smaller ratio of , smaller signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) of eavesdropping channels, smaller threshold and more legitimate antennas are beneficial to the improvement of anti‐interference capability for the relay networks with Beaulieu‐Xie distributions when the legal channel link R→D is in a state of high SNR.

The Performance of Physical Layer Security over $K$ Fading SIMO Channel

Linna Zhou, Yang Cao

The wireless communication services are developing rapidly, but the vulnerability of its broadcast is often eavesdropped and attacked by an illegal third party, which poses a huge challenge for secure transmission. Traditional upper-layer protocols and tools have inherent loopholes and difficulties in key distribution and management. However physical layer security technology has become an important technology to the assurance of information security by its simple algorithms and better practicability. In this paper, based on the secure performance of single-input multiple-out (SIMO) Wyner's wiretap model over K fading channels, the closed-form expressions for average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are derived. The theoretical analysis and Monte Carlo simulation prove that the results are consistent and feasible, with an important role in restraining illegal interception and attack.

Physical Layer Security for CRNs over Beaulieu‐Xie Fading Channels

Yanyang Zeng, Yang Hua, Yiwei Fang +1 more

In recent years, the access of massive communication devices leads to the insufficient spectrum resources of wireless networks. One of the practical means to resolve the problem is to build cognitive radio networks (CRNs), which can realize the sharing of spectrum resources between primary and secondary users, thereby improving the utilization rate of wireless spectrum resources. To this end, the CRNs are utilized to establish the Wyner’s eavesdropping model over the Beaulieu‐Xie fading channels. We mainly deduce the accurate expressions of secrecy outage probability and strictly positive secrecy capacity to explore the performance of physical layer security. Moreover, the better overlap between the statistical simulation and the theoretical results indicates the correctness of the theoretical analysis equation. The interesting results are that both increasing the Pmax and decreasing the Cth can improve the security performance. This work is a good reference and guidance for modeling CRNs (Internet of Things, fifth generation, cell phone networks, etc.) and security performance evaluation.

Physical Layer Security over SIMO κ-μ Shadowed Fading Channels

Jiangfeng Sun, Xingwang Li, Yuan Ding +1 more

Background: Due to the openness of wireless fading channel, it is easy to be disturbed by other transmission signals and noises. Encryption and decryption can guarantee the security of signals, and Physical Layer Security (PLS) which uses the features of fading channels itself to ensure the security of signal transmission has also been widely concerned. In addition, considering the wide applications of κ-μ shadowed distribution model and the advantages of Multiple-Input Multiple- Output (MIMO) technology, the confidentiality over Single-Input Multiple-Output (SIMO) independent κ-μ shadowed model has been studied. Objective: To introduce the factors affecting the confidentiality on SIMO independent κ-μ shadowed model. Methods: Novel representations of the lower bound on SPSC and SOP are deduced over independent κ-μ shadowed model. The method of moment matching to deal with infinite series is adopted. Results: Through theoretical simulation and statistical simulation, the validity of our analysis is verified. We also get the curves for SOP and SPSC when the parameters of the channel change. Conclusion: Under the condition of larger P, large L , large μD, large mDand small kDcan improve the secrecy performance on independent κ-μ shadowed network.

Physical‐layer security for cellular multiuser two‐way relaying networks with single and multiple decode‐and‐forward relays

Anshul Pandey, Suneel Yadav

Abstract We investigate the secrecy performance of cellular multiuser two‐way relay networks, where the bidirectional information exchange between a multiantenna base station (BS), and several users can be accomplished with the assistance of decode‐and‐forward relay(s) in the presence of a multiantenna passive eavesdropper. We employ low‐complexity antenna selection strategy at the BS coupled with user scheduling for maximizing the end‐to‐end signal‐to‐noise ratios (SNRs). To enhance the wiretap probability, the eavesdropper applies a maximal ratio combining technique to combine the received signals. Under such considerations, in the single‐relay scenario, we deduce the exact closed‐form secrecy outage probability (SOP) expression under Rayleigh fading channels. For more insights into the system secrecy diversity order, we derive the closed‐form asymptotic SOP expressions at high SNR based on the quality of the main and wiretap links. In the multirelay scenario, we formulate an opportunistic relay selection strategy, followed by its impact on the SOP performance in the presence of Rayleigh channels. To show the impact of multiple relays on the secrecy diversity order, we derive the asymptotic SOP expressions in the high SNR regime depending on the quality of the main and wiretap links. It is shown from the asymptotic SOP expressions under both single‐relay and multirelay scenarios that the secrecy diversity order reduces to zero in the high SNR regime, regardless of number of antennas, number of users, and number of relays. Our results also reveal that the SOP performance diminishes with an increased number of eavesdropper antennas. Numerical and simulation results verify our derived analytical findings.

Physical Layer Secrecy Performance of Multi-hop Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks with Multiple Eavesdroppers

Duc‐Dung Tran, Nguyen‐Son Vo, Tan-Loc Vo +1 more

Today, wireless networks become the most popular way to communicate. However, information can be easily eavesdropped or extracted by eavesdroppers due to the broadcast nature of wireless communication. Multi-hop relay communication systems provide for higher secrecy performance than direct transmission techniques. In this paper, the physical layer secrecy performance of multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relay network is investigated in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers over Nakagami-m fading channels. To do so, we find out the exact closed-form expressions of existence probability of secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability by using statistical characteristics of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Importantly, these expressions are in more general forms compared to other results in the literature. The proposed results show a quite agreement between numerical analysis and equivalent Monte-Carlo simulations.
