Geometric Hamiltonian Formulation of Quantum Mechanics

Davide Pastorello

My PhD thesis is focused on geometric Hamiltonian formulation of Quanum Mechanics and its interplay with standard formulation. The main result is the construction of a general prescription to set up a quantum theory as a classical-like theory where quantum dynamics is given by a Hamiltonian vector field on a complex projective space with Kähler structure. In such geometric framework quantum states are represented by classical-like Liouville densities. After a complete characterization of classical-like observables in a finite-dimensional quantum theory, the observable C*-algebra is described in geometric Hamiltonian terms. In the final part of the work, the classical-like Hamiltonian formulation is applied to the study of composite quantum systems providing a notion of entanglement measure.

Paths of canonical transformations and their quantization

Maurice A. de Gosson

In their simplest formulations, classical dynamics is the study of Hamiltonian flows and quantum mechanics of propagators. Both are linked, and emerge from the datum of a single classical concept, the Hamiltonian function. We study and emphasize the analogies between Hamiltonian flows and quantum propagators; this allows us to verify G. Mackey's observation that quantum mechanics (in its Weyl formulation) is a refinement of Hamiltonian mechanics. We discuss in detail the metaplectic representation, which very explicitly shows the close relationship between classical mechanics and quantum mechanics; the latter emerging from the first by lifting Hamiltonian flows to the double covering of the symplectic group. We also give explicit formulas for the factorization of Hamiltonian flows into simpler flows, and prove a quantum counterpart of these results.

About an Ambiguity Appearing on the Hamiltonian Formulation of Quantum Mechanics

Gustavo V. López, Ana Griselda, Carlos R. Martínez-Prieto

We study classical and quantum dynamics of the symmetric harmonic oscillator and the symmetric bouncer defined in 2-D. For these systems we get each of them for two different constants of motion, two Lagrangians and two Hamiltonians which describe the same classical dynamics. However, the quantization of these systems (using Schrödinger equation), using their two equivalents Hamiltonian, describes different quantum dynamics for each of them. This represents an ambiguity on the Hamiltonian formulation of the Quantum Mechanics.
