Abstract

Abstract We have studied phase transitions and thermodynamic properties of the antiferromagnetic Potts model with number of spin states q = 3 on a body-centered cubic lattice by the Monte Carlo method. Investigations have been performed with account for exchange interactions J1 and J2 between the first and second nearest neighbors. The phase transition order has been analyzed using the histogram method. It is found that in this model with J2 = 0, a second-order phase transition is observed. It is concluded that the inclusion of the interaction between the second nearest neighbors changes the type of the phase transition.

Critical Properties of Antiferromagnetic Potts Model on a bcc Lattice

Abstract The Monte Carlo method has been used to study phase transitions and critical properties of the antiferromagnetic 3-state Potts model on a body-centered cubic lattice with interactions of the first (J1) and second (J2) nearest neighbors. The competition of exchange interactions in the range –2/3 < J2 < 0 was determined to result in a phase separation. In the low-temperature region, an ordered phase, lying inside the phase with broken sublattice symmetry, was found. The magnetic structures of the ground state corresponding to different regions of the phase diagram have been obtained. The analysis of the phase transition order has been carried out using the Binder cumulant method and the histogram method. It has been revealed that the interaction of the second nearest neighbors leads to a change in the type of phase transition. Static critical exponents have been calculated based on scaling relations. The critical exponents correspond to the universality class of the three-dimensional XY model.

Abstract—Phase transitions in the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the body-centered cubic lattice were studied using the replica algorithm of the Monte Carlo method, taking into account the interactions between the first and second neighbors. The investigations were performed for the ratio of the value of the exchange interactions between the nearest and second neighbors in the range 0.0 ≤ r ≤ 1.0. The phase diagram of critical temperature versus the value of interaction between the second neighbors was constructed. The region in the diagram where the transition from antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase is of the first order was discovered for the first time in this study.

Abstract The Wang–Landau algorithm of the Monte Carlo method is used to study the magnetic structures of the ground state, phase transitions, and thermodynamic properties of the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Potts model with number q = 4 of spin states in a hexagonal lattice with the interactions of the nearest (J1) and next-to-nearest (J2) neighbors. The exchange interaction ratios in the range of 0.0 ≤ r = |J2/J1| ≤ 1.0 are studied. A phase diagram of the dependence of the critical temperature on the exchange interaction value of the next-to-nearest neighbors is constructed. The nature of phase transitions is analyzed. It is found that a first-order phase transition is observed in the range of 0.1 ≤ r ≤ 1.0, while there is no phase transition in the system and a strong degeneracy of the ground state is observed at r = 0.0.

Phase transitions in the antiferromagnetic Ising model on a body-centered cubic lattice are studied on the basis of the replica algorithm by the Monte Carlo method and histogram analysis taking into account the interaction of next-to-nearest neighbors. The phase diagram of the dependence of the critical temperature on the intensity of interaction of the next-to-nearest neighbors is constructed. It is found that a second-order phase transition is realized in this model in the investigated interval of the intensities of interaction of next-to-nearest neighbors.

Phase Transitions and Critical Properties of the Heisenberg Antiferromagnetic Model on a Body-Centered Cubic Lattice with Second Nearest Neighbor Interaction

Abstract Phase transitions and critical properties of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a body-centered cubic lattice are investigated by the Monte Carlo method, based on the replica algorithm with allowance of the interactions between the first and second nearest neighbors. Analysis is performed for intensity ratios r of exchange interaction between the first and second nearest neighbors in the interval 0.0 ≤ r ≤ 1.0. The phase diagram of the dependence of the critical temperature on the intensity of interaction of the second nearest neighbors is constructed. On this diagram, a region in which the transition from the antiferromagnetic to the paramagnetic phase is of the first order is detected. The entire set of the main static critical indices is calculated. It is shown that the universality class of the critical behavior is preserved in the interval 0.0 ≤ r ≤ 0.6. It is found that the variation of the second nearest neighbor interaction intensity in the range 0.8 ≤ r ≤ 1.0 leads to nonuniversal critical behavior.
