Impact of quantum computing on organizations and their technological infrastructure

Diego León Betancur Pérez, Anny Carolina Betancur Taborda, Leydi Johanna Henao Tamayo

This article investigates the impact of quantum computing (QC) as an emerging technology with the potential to benefit businesses and their technological infrastructure. The main objective is to describe the challenges organizations face when adopting it, as well as the opportunities it offers in increasingly competitive and strategically complex markets driven by exponential growth. The study also identified that, while quantum computing promises to revolutionize areas such as resource optimization, productivity efficiency, and the simulation of future scenarios—enabling better-informed decision-making and risk mitigation—its implementation encounters significant obstacles: high costs, the need for specialized talent, and new security risks. To address these barriers, hybrid models combining cloud and local infrastructure, as well as microservices, have emerged as practical alternatives, enabling organizations to access this technology without requiring substantial initial investment. Ultimately, this research contributes to the academic discussion that quantum computing is not a replacement but rather a complement that can be integrated gradually and carefully. The path forward requires efforts in education and policy to ensure accessible and ethical development, preventing it from becoming a tool reserved for only a few.

Challenges of Quantum Computing Application for Accelerated Business Innovation

Dimiter Georgiev Velev, Пламена Златева

Quantum Computing (QC) is a new generation of computing technologies based on the principles of quantum mechanics. It can offer significant advantages over traditional computer systems in solving complex problems that would take years for classical computers. The ability of QC to process vast amounts of information at incredible speeds and find solutions to previously unsolvable problems could accelerate innovation, revolutionize industries and create new business opportunities. QC can be used to solve specific, real-world business problems that can include big data processing, complex calculations, process optimization, and cybersecurity. To realize the potential of QC, companies must invest in partnerships with technology companies, train specialists and experiment with pilot projects. Early adopters will gain a competitive advantage by optimizing operations, creating innovative products and transforming business models. The aim of the paper is to examine the way QC can accelerate innovation processes in business, as well as to outline practical aspects and challenges to help implement this disruptive technology in the corporate environment.

Corporate Digital Responsibility and the Business Implications of Quantum Computing

Martin George Wynn, Peter Jones

While artificial intelligence has been attracting increasing investment and controversy, a new, and potentially much more powerful technology, Quantum Computing, is on the business horizon. Already, organizations are assessing its potential for addressing a range of computationally challenging issues, such as last-mile optimization and cryptanalysis to break encryption algorithms, and are exploring possible applications in a range of business areas. While the advent of Quantum Computing may bring an array of opportunities and benefits, the companies developing and applying Quantum Computing technologies will face, and have to address, new sets of corporate social, ethical, economic, technical and environmental responsibilities. Using a qualitative research method based on secondary sources, this article examines the implications for Quantum Computing for corporate digital responsibility, and assesses the guidance currently being offered by leading consultancies for organisations deploying Quantum Computing. The results suggest that although there is some guidance on how companies can apply and exploit Quantum Computing technology, there is as yet little consideration of the possible downsides, including, for example, potential negative environmental impacts. Further research is needed to develop a more balanced assessment of benefits and disbenefits as Quantum Computing is deployed in the corporate world and wider global society.

Feasible Applications of Quantum Computing in Varying Fields

Elias Chamma, Amber McGee, Austin Gillmann +2 more

This paper explores the potential impact of quantum computing in several fields, including medicine, finance, cybersecurity, cryptography, high-performance computing and hacking. Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize these fields by providing significant advancements in processing power, enabling the development of new algorithms and computing methods that were previously impossible with classical computing. The paper explores the potential risks of quantum computing in the context of hacking, as quantum computers can potentially break through existing security systems and create new threats to privacy and security. Quantum computing has the potential to break through current encryption methods and develop new, more secure encryption techniques. High-performance computing can benefit from quantum computing through faster simulations and optimization of complex systems. In the field of medicine, quantum computing can be used to accelerate drug discovery and personalize medicine by simulating molecular interactions at the atomic level. Finally, in finance, quantum computing can be utilized for portfolio optimization, risk management, and algorithmic trading. This paper concludes that quantum computing has immense potential for improving various fields, but it is important to consider the associated risks and challenges. Moreover, there is a need for further research and development in areas such as post-quantum cryptography, algorithm development and cybersecurity. The potential of quantum computing and its intersection with other technologies highlight the long path towards classical computing's maturation.
