Abstract

In this paper, a new quantum hybrid controller for controlling the strongly eigenstate controllable systems, is designed. For this purpose, a Lyapunov control law is implemented when the target state is in reachable set of the initial state. On the other hand, if the target state is not in the reachable set of the given initial state, based on Grover algorithm, a new interface state that the target state is in its reachable set, will be found and the given initial state is transferred to the new interface state. Then, the new interface state is transferred to the target state, based on a designed Lyapunov control law.A theorem and a new algorithm, for implementing the presented method, is designed. Finally, a simulated example illustrates the applications and advantages of presented method.

Lyapunov-based control of quantum systems

Symeon Grivopoulos, Bassam A. Bamieh

We propose feedback control laws for quantum systems, based on Lyapunov design. These feedback laws locally asymptotically stabilize any desired eigenstate of the system Hamiltonian. The target eigenstate and the size of its region of attraction can be tailored by the choice of design parameters. These feedback control laws are used to design open loop controls for state transfer problems. We illustrate the method with a transfer problem between bound states of a molecular Morse oscillator.

State transfer control in non-Markovian open quantum systems

Long-Zhen HU, Shuang Cong, Fei Yang +1 more

The weak-coupled two-level open quantum system described by non-Markovian time-convolution-less master equation is investigated in this paper. Based on the Lyapunov stability theorem, the system control laws used to transfer state are designed. The characteristics of the purity changes in the non-Markovian open quantum systems are studied. The effectiveness of the control system is ensured by adjusting the parameters of control laws. Three simulation experiments are implemented under the Matlab environment, they are the states transfer from the eigenstate to the superposition state, from the superposition state to the superposition state, and from the mixed state to the superposition state, respectively. Numerical experimental results show that the target state can be reached from different initial states under the action of the control laws designed, and demonstrate the effectiveness of quantum Lyapunov control method proposed.

PSO-assisted Lyapunov control design for quantum systems

Xiaoke Guan, Sen Kuang, Daoyi Dong

By using a quadratic Lyapunov function with un-known parameters and a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, this paper proposes a new Lyapunov control scheme for quantum systems. This approach can achieve high-probability population transfer to a given target state. For the case when the target state is an eigenstate of the internal Hamiltonian, we introduce a virtual control law into the system model and design corresponding control law. The stability of the system under the action of the Lyapunov control law is analyzed via the LaSalle invariance principle. For the case when the target state is a superposition state, we design a control law by performing a unitary transformation for the quantum system model under consideration. To achieve desired state transfer, we further introduce a PSO algorithm to search for the unknown parameters contained in the control law. Numerical results on a five-level quantum system and a three-qubit system are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Quantum-behaved PSO-based Lyapunov control of closed quantum systems

Song Liu, Sen Kuang

A Lyapunov-based control scheme is presented to drive closed quantum systems into any target eigenstate with as high population as possible by the quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Based on a Lyapunov function with a Hermitian operator to be constructed, a control law with the unknown parameters contained in the Hermitian operator is designed. To achieve high-population state transfer to the target state, we first initialize those unknown parameters by choosing a path to the target state in its energy-level connectivity graph and setting their values along the path. Then, a set of optimal parameters is found by the quantum-behaved PSO algorithm. Finally, numerical simulation experiments are performed on a five-level quantum system and a four-qubit system to demonstrate the effectiveness of the control scheme in this paper.

Implicit Lyapunov control of multi-control Hamiltonian systems in degenerate cases

Shuang Cong, Fangfang Meng

In closed quantum systems, if controlled systems are not strongly regular or there exists at least one eigenstate that is directly uncoupled to the target state, then such systems control will become degenerate cases. This paper proposes a quantum control method designed by an implicit Lyapunov function to transfer states of the quantum systems in these two degenerate cases, especially the method proposed is suitable for multi-control Hamiltonian systems. The state distance is selected as the Lyapunov function in this paper. Numerical simulation experiments on a 4-level system are done, and the experiment results indicate the effectiveness of the implicit Lyapunov control method proposed for degenerate cases and multi-control Hamiltonians.

Control of non-controllable quantum systems: a quantum control algorithm based on Grover iteration

Chen-Bin Zhang, Dao-Yi Dong, Zong-Hai Chen

A new notion of controllability, eigenstate controllability, is defined for finite-dimensional bilinear quantum mechanical systems which are neither strongly completely controllable nor completely controllable. Moreover, a quantum control algorithm based on Grover iteration is designed to perform a quantum control task of steering a system, which is eigenstate controllable but may not be (strongly) completely controllable, from an arbitrary state to a target state.
