Abstract

In the paper we present the angular distributions of photoelectrons in ionization of neon atom by a field of several multiple frequencies. The considered setup is refered to the RABBITT (Reconstruction of Attosecond Beating By Interference of Two-photon Transitions) spectroscopy under condition that the field frequencies are selected in such a way that resonant transitions through discrete states play an important role. The role of the phase of the seed infrared field on the angular distributions of photoemission is analyzed. A significant difference in the anisotropy parameters at the near-threshold sideband caused by transitions through discrete states is shown. Two methods are compared: numerical solution of rate equations with continuum discretization and third-order perturbation theory.

Attosecond Interferometry Involving Discrete States

Maria M. Popova, S. N. Yudin, Грызлова Елена Владимировна +2 more

In the paper we theoretically investigate the features of RABBITT (Reconstruction of Attosecond Beating By Interference of Two-photon Transitions) spectroscopy under conditions when transitions through discrete spectrum states play a significant role. Two approaches are applied in the article: the numerical solution of rate equations with continuum discretization and the perturbation theory up to the third order in amplitude. Both approaches use transition matrix elements and photoionization amplitudes obtained by the high-precision R-matrix method. Within the framework of these approaches, photoelectron spectra, the amplitude and phase of RABBITT oscillations were obtained, and the effect of the seed optical field intensity and detuning from a resonance upon excitation of discrete states was studied.

Advantages of polarization control in RABBITT

Maria M. Popova, Грызлова Елена Владимировна, Sergei N. Yudin +1 more

The reconstruction of attosecond beating by interference of two-photon transitions (RABBITT) setup is theoretically studied for various combinations of extreme ultraviolet and infrared (IR) field components polarization: ``$\mathrm{linear}+\mathrm{linear}$,'' ``$\mathrm{linear}+\mathrm{circular}$'' with crossed propagation directions, and ``$\mathrm{circular}+\mathrm{circular}$'' with parallel propagation directions. We examine the general properties of photoelectron angular distributions and their response to the variation of the IR pulse delay. Numerical simulations are performed for the neon valence shell ionization into the structureless continuum using two approaches: time-dependent perturbation theory and the solution of amplitude rate equations. To distinguish between ``geometrical'' governed by fields polarization and spectroscopic features, we provide an additional analysis for the case of $s$-shell ionization.

Decomposition of the transition phase in multi-sideband schemes for reconstruction of attosecond beating by interference of two-photon transitions

Divya Bharti, David Atri-Schuller, Gavin Menning +6 more

Reconstruction of attosecond beating by interference of two-photon transitions (RABBITT) is a technique that can be used to determine the phases of atomic transition elements in photoionization processes. In the traditional RABBITT scheme, the so-called asymptotic approximation considers the measured phase as a sum of the Wigner phase linked to a single-photon ionization process and the continuum-continuum phase associated with further single-photon transitions in the continuum. In this paper, we extend the asymptotic approximation to multi-sideband RABBITT schemes. The predictions from this approximation are then compared with results obtained by an ab initio calculation based on solving the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation for atomic hydrogen.

Quantum coherent control of the photoelectron angular distribution in bichromatic-field ionization of atomic neon

Грызлова Елена Владимировна, Alexei N. Grum-Grzhimailo, Ekaterina I. Staroselskaya +2 more

We investigate the coherent control of the photoelectron angular distribution in bichromatic atomic ionization. Neon is selected as target since it is one of the most popular systems in current gas-phase experiments with free-electron lasers (FELSs). In particular, we tackle practical questions, such as the role of the fine-structure splitting, the pulse length, and the intensity. Time-dependent and stationary perturbation theory are employed, and we also solve the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation in a single-active electron model. We consider neon ionized by a FEL pulse whose fundamental frequency is in resonance with either $2p\text{\ensuremath{-}}3s$ or $2p\text{\ensuremath{-}}4s$ excitation. The contribution of the nonresonant two-photon process and its potential constructive or destructive role for quantum coherent control is investigated.
