Abstract

A criterion and necessary conditions for the convergence (local continuity) of quantum relative entropy are obtained. Some applications of these results are considered. In particular, the preservation of the local continuity of quantum relative entropy under completely positive linear maps is established. Bibliography: 29 titles.

Convergence Conditions for the Quantum Relative Entropy and Other Applications of the Deneralized Quantum Dini Lemma

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

Abstract We describe a generalized version of the result called quantum Dini lemma that was used previously for analysis of local continuity of basic correlation and entanglement measures. The generalization consists in considering sequences of functions instead of a single function. It allows to expand the scope of possible applications of the method. We prove two general dominated convergence theorems and the theorem about preserving local continuity under convex mixtures. By using these theorems we obtain several convergence conditions for the quantum relative entropy and for the mutual information of a quantum channel considered as a function of a pair (channel, input state).

Continuity of the relative entropy of resource

Ludovico Lami, Максим Евгеньевич Широков

We present a criterion to establish the local continuity of the relative entropy of resource, i.e. the relative entropy distance to the set of free states, in any quantum resource theory. Several basic corollaries of this criterion are presented. Applications to the relative entropy of entanglement in multipartite quantum systems are considered. It is shown, in particular, that local continuity of any relative entropy of multipartite entanglement follows from local continuity of the quantum mutual information.

On characterization of positive maps preserving continuity of the von Neumann entropy

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

We show that a positive linear map preserves local continuity (convergence) of the entropy if and only if it preserves finiteness of the entropy, i.e. transforms operators with finite entropy to operators with finite entropy. The last property is equivalent to the boundedness of the output entropy of a map on the set of pure states.

Lower semicontinuity of relative entropy disturbance and its consequences

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

It is proved that the decrease of quantum relative entropy under the action of a quantum operation is a lower semicontinuous function of the pair of its arguments. This property implies, in particular, that the local discontinuity jumps of the quantum relative entropy do not increase under the action of quantum operations. It also implies the lower semicontinuity of the modulus of the joint convexity of quantum relative entropy (as a function of ensembles of quantum states). Various corollaries and applications of these results are considered. Bibliography: 42 titles.

The output entropy of quantum channels and operations

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

Continuity properties of the output entropy of positive linear maps between Banach spaces of trace class operators are investigated with the special attention to the classes of quantum channels and operations. It is shown that finiteness of the output entropy of a positive map on the whole input state space implies its continuity. Sufficient conditions for this property expressed in terms of the Kraus representation of quantum channels and operations are presented. The characterization of a positive map "preserving continuity of the entropy" (in the sense that continuity of the entropy on a set of input states implies continuity of its output entropy on this set) is obtained and its applications to the class of quantum operations are considered. The special relation between continuity properties of the output entropies of complementary quantum operations is established and its corollaries are discussed. Continuity conditions for the output entropy of positive maps considered as a function of a pair (map, input state) are also obtained. Several applications to the quantum information theory are presented in the last part of the paper.

The continuity of the output entropy of positive maps

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

Global and local continuity conditions for the output von Neumann entropy for positive maps between Banach spaces of trace-class operators in separable Hilbert spaces are obtained. Special attention is paid to completely positive maps: infinite dimensional quantum channels and operations. It is shown that as a result of some specific properties of the von Neumann entropy (as a function on the set of density operators) several results on the output entropy of positive maps can be obtained, which cannot be derived from the general properties of entropy type functions. In particular, it is proved that global continuity of the output entropy of a positive map follows from its finiteness. A characterization of positive linear maps preserving continuity of the entropy (in the following sense: continuity of the entropy on an arbitrary subset of input operators implies continuity of the output entropy on this subset) is obtained. A connection between the local continuity properties of two completely positive complementary maps is considered. Bibliography: 21 titles.
