Abstract

A variety of photonic devices is required for the implementation of quantum sensors, computers and communication networks. This presentation will describe the current state-of-the-art and future possibilities for key photonic devices that enable quantum technologies, such as photon sources, photon detectors, optical amplifiers, electro-optic modulators and paths towards the integration of these devices. Specific requirements on these devices that come from quantum technology demands will be explored and technology solution approaches will be described. The presentation will also explore business prospects for photonic devices in the quantum markets, starting from the present and extrapolating to future opportunities.

Photonic quantum technologies: from integrated quantum devices to designing scalable complex systems

Christine Silberhorn

Quantum technologies promise a change of paradigm for many fields of application, for example in communication systems, in high-performance computing and simulation of quantum systems, as well as in sensor technology. However, the experimental realization of suitable system still poses considerable challenges. Current efforts in photonic quantum science target the implementation of practical devices and scalable systems, where the realization of quantum devices and controlled quantum network structures is key for envisioned future technologies. Here we present our progress on the engineering of integrated photonic systems, which can overcome current limitations for the realization of scalable photonic systems. Specifically, our research currently focuses on three different but complementary topics: integrated devices based on lithium niobate circuits, engineering and harnessing the temporal-spectral structure of quantum states of light, and photonic quantum computation.

Photonic quantum technologies

Ian A. Walmsley

Photonics is an effective platform for engineering quantum states of many photons that can be harnessed for applications in information processing tasks, ranging from secure communications to enhanced sensors to efficient simulation of physical or other systems. I will discuss recent developments and some challenges to achieving this promise. Building and measuring multi-photon quantum states suitable for these applications demands a means for them to interfere and for detection at the level of individual photons. Photonic integrated circuits are well suited to these tasks at a scale that is not possible by other means. Advances in the design and utilization of circuits and detectors enable quantum advantage, and indeed provide new opportunities for classical optical systems.

Design of Quantum Key Fusion Model for Power Multi-terminal

Shaoxian Xia, Zheng Wang, Zhanbin Hou +5 more

With the construction of State Grid informatization, professional data such as operation inspection, marketing, and regulation have gradually shifted from offline to online. In recent years, cyberspace security incidents have occurred frequently, and national and group cybersecurity threats have emerged. As the next-generation communication system, quantum security has to satisfy the security requirements. Also, it is especially important to build the fusion application of energy network quantum private communication technology and conventional network, and to form a safe and reliable quantum-level communication technology solution suitable for the power grid. In this paper, from the perspective of the multi-terminal quantum key application, combined with a mature electricity consumption information collection system, a handheld meter reading solution based on quantum private communication technology is proposed to effectively integrate the two and achieve technological upgrading. First, from the technical theory and application fields, the current situation of quantum private communication technology and its feasibility of combining with classical facilities are introduced and analyzed. Then, the hardware security module and handheld meter reading terminal equipment are taken as typical examples to design and realize quantum key shared storage, business security process application model; finally, based on the overall environment of quantum key distribution, the architecture design of multi-terminal quantum key application verification is implemented to verify the quantum key business application process.
