Abstract

The authors show that a hard-wall confinement in quantum one-dimensional mixtures induces a nonlocal spin-coherence signature in the tails ofthe momentum distribution where only local two-body correlation contributions are usually expected.

High-momentum oscillating tails of strongly interacting 1D gases in a box

Gianni Aupetit-Diallo, S. Musolino, Mathias Albert +1 more

We study the momentum distribution of strongly interacting one-dimensional mixtures of particles at zero temperature in a box potential. We find that the magnitude of the $1/k^4$ tail of the momentum distribution is not only due to short-distance correlations, but also to the presence of the rigid walls, breaking the Tan's relation relating this quantity to the adiabatic derivative of the energy with respect to the inverse of the interaction strength. The additional contribution is a finite-size effect that includes a $k$-independent and an oscillating part. This latter, surprisingly, encodes information on long-range spin correlations.

Dynamical probing of high-order spin coherence in one-dimensional mixtures

S. Musolino, Gianni Aupetit-Diallo, Mathias Albert +2 more

We investigate the dynamics of one-dimensional SU(2) ultracold fermions near the Tonks-Girardeau limit, confined in a box potential. The system is driven out of equilibrium by initially preparing the two spin components in a fully separated configuration, and its evolution is described by the Hamiltonian in the presence of strong repulsive interactions. Building on the results in G. Aupetit-Diallo et al., Phys. Rev. A 107, L061301 (2023), we extend the analysis to out-of-equilibrium dynamics, uncovering the emergence of time-dependent oscillating high-momentum tails in the momentum distribution. These oscillations, due to the finite size of the system, are governed by a nonlocal, high-order spin coherence term, whose amplitude and phase evolve over time. We show that this term initially grows as ${t}^{N/2}$ and subsequently follows the spin-mixing dynamics of the system. Notably, when the spin components are fully mixed, the amplitude of this border-to-border spin coherence reaches its maximum value.

Hard-core Bose-Fermi mixture in one-dimensional split traps

Xiao-Long Lu, Xiangguo Yin, Yunbo Zhang

We consider a strongly interacting one-dimensional (1D) Bose-Fermi mixture confined in a hard-wall trap or a harmonic oscillator trap with a tunable $\ensuremath{\delta}$-function barrier at the trap center. The mixture consists of a 1D Bose gas with repulsive interactions and of a 1D noninteracting spin-aligned Fermi gas, with both species interacting through hard-core interactions. Using a generalized Bose-Fermi mapping, we calculate the reduced single-particle density matrix and the momentum distribution of the gas as a function of barrier strength and the parity of particle number. The secondary peaks in the momentum distribution show remarkable correlation between particles on the two sides of the split.

One-body density matrix and momentum distribution of strongly interacting one-dimensional spinor quantum gases

Li Yang, Han Pu

An efficient theoretical technique for calculating the one-body density matrix and momentum distributions is developed for general one-dimensional spinor quantum gases in the strong-interaction regime by exploring the connection between the density matrix and one-dimensional spinless hard-core anyon gases. The technique is expected to provide significant new insights into the properties of the one-dimensional spinor gases.

Symmetry oscillations in strongly interacting one-dimensional mixtures

Anna Minguzzi

Understanding the effect of correlations in interacting many-body systems is one of the main challenges in quantum mechanics. While the general problem can only be addressed by approximate methods and numerical simulations, in some limiting cases, it is amenable to exact solutions. I will present a family of exact solutions for strongly interacting 1D quantum gases in arbitrary external potential, valid for bosons, multicomponent fermions and mixtures, and in particular our new exact solution for the case of symmetric-breaking mixtures. The solutions allow one to obtain experimental observables such as the density profiles and momentum distribution at all momentum scales, beyond the Luttinger liquid approach, as well as to describe finite-temperature conditions, spin, and magnetization effects. I will present some uses of these solutions to obtain the exact quantum dynamics, both for the small oscillation regime and for the strongly out-of-equilibrium spin dynamics, where I will propose a protocol to observe symmetry oscillations in binary bosonic mixtures.

Strongly interacting trapped one-dimensional quantum gases: Exact solution

Anna Minguzzi, Patrizia Vignolo

Understanding the effect of correlations in interacting many-body systems is one of the main challenges in quantum mechanics. While the general problem can only be addressed by approximate methods and numerical simulations, in some limiting cases, it is amenable to exact solutions. This Review collects the predictions coming from a family of exact solutions which allows us to obtain the many-body wavefunction of strongly correlated quantum fluids confined by a tight waveguide and subjected to any form of longitudinal confinement. It directly describes the experiments with trapped ultracold atoms where the strongly correlated regime in one dimension has been achieved. The exact solution applies to bosons, fermions, and mixtures. It allows us to obtain experimental observables such as the density profiles and momentum distribution at all momentum scales, beyond the Luttinger liquid approach. It also predicts the exact quantum dynamics at all the times, including the small oscillation regime yielding the collective modes of the system and the large quench regime where the system parameters are changed considerably. The solution can be extended to describe finite-temperature conditions, spin, and magnetization effects. The Review illustrates the idea of the solution, presents the key theoretical achievements, and the main experiments on strongly correlated one-dimensional quantum gases.
