Abstract

Abstract We theoretically study the dynamical change in the amplification of the output probe field spectra of a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of double mechanical modes coupled to a photonic crystal (PhC) nanocavity. The PhC cavity is also embedded with a quantum dot (QD) (two-level system) and simultaneously driven by an external pump and a probe field. We show that multiple number of transparency windows that appear can be controlled by the QD-cavity coupling strength and also the Fano profiles are directly measured by the resonant frequency of the mechanical mode. We also show the optical transition from bistability to tristability/multistability by adjusting the switching threshold of the system parameters. These results can also be used to study frequency optical nonreciprocity and all-optical switches in multi-resonator photonic devices.

Multistability and Fano resonances in a hybrid optomechanical photonic crystal microcavity

Sajia Yeasmin, Surabhi Yadav, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee +1 more

We investigate the optical response of a hybrid cavity quantum-electrodynamics system consisting of a quantum dot embedded in an optomechanical photonic crystal cavity. The system is coupled to an auxiliary cavity via a waveguide that can support a single optical mode. We demonstrate the possibility of generating tunable optical bistability, double-bistabilty and tristability which can be utilized to design all-optical-switch and multi-valued logic circuits eventually forming a part of a large scale quantum communication platform. The proposed system has also found to exhibit the Mollow triplet and the Fano resonances modified by an optomechanical interaction. The optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) is superimposed on the Fano resonance (OMIT-Fano resonance) having the transparency window occurring exactly at the point where the probe detuning becomes equal to the mechanical oscillator's resonant frequency.

Tunable optical multistability and absorption in a hybrid optomechanical system assisted by an auxiliary cavity and quantum dot molecules

Surabhi Yadav, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee

Abstract Coherent and tunable light-matter interaction in cavity quantum electrodynamics (C-QED) has attracted much attention for its fundamental importance and applications in emerging areas of quantum technologies. In this work, we propose a hybrid C-QED system comprising embedded quantum dot molecules (QDMs) in a primary photonic crystal (PhC) optomechanical cavity, which is further coupled to an auxiliary PhC cavity via a single-mode waveguide. We investigate the effect of the QDMs, mechanical oscillator, and the feedback from the auxiliary cavity on the multistability response shown by the mean intracavity photons in the primary optomechanical cavity. Tuning the various system parameters can control optical multistability. We further study the absorption spectra showing distinct characteristics of negative absorption (transparency dip), which strongly depend on mechanical resonator frequency. Thus, the proposed model is valuable for practically realizing efficient all-optical switching devices at low power and in various other quantum sensing devices.

Controllable optical bistability and Fano line shape in a hybrid optomechanical system assisted by kerr medium: possibility of all optical switching

Aranya B. Bhattacherjee, Muhammad Sami Hasan

We theoretically analyse the optical and optomechanical nonlinearity present in a hybrid system consisting of a quantum dot(QD) coupled to an optomechanical cavity in the presence of a nonlinear Kerr medium, and show that this hybrid system can be used as an all optical switch. A high degree of control and tunability via the QD-cavity coupling strength, the Kerr and the optomechanical nonlinearity over the bistable behaviour shown by the mean intracavity optical field and the power transmission of the weak probe field can be achieved. The results obtained in this investigation has the potential to be used for designing efficient all-optical switch and high sensitive sensors for use in Telecom systems.

Controllable bistable optical switch and normal mode splitting in hybrid optomechanical semiconductor microcavity containing single quantum dot driven by amplitude modulated field

Vijay Bhatt, Sabur A. Barbhuiya, Pradip K. Jha +1 more

Abstract We theoretically explore optical bistability for the possible signature of all-optical switching and their performance in a hybrid quantum optomechanical system comprising of two semiconductor microcavities coupled optically. One of the cavity is driven by an external amplitude-modulated pump laser while the second cavity, which contains a quantum dot (QD), is indirectly driven by light transmitted from the first cavity and a transverse optical field. The generated bistable behavior due to optomechanical nonlinearity shows a typical optical switching behavior and it can be controlled by changing the laser power, QD cavity coupling, modulating amplitude/frequency and the optomechanical coupling. A clear signature of energy exchange between the mechanical and optical modes is visible from the mechanical displacement spectrum. These results suggest that the present system can be used in sensitive optical switches and optical sensors.

Flexible Control of Two-Channel Transmission and Group Delay in an Optomechanical System with Double Quantum Dots Driven by External Field

Faqiang Wang, Weici Liu, Zhongchao Wei +2 more

With the presence of a driving field applied to double quantum dots and a control field applied on the cavity, the transmission performance and group delay effect of a probe field have been theoretically studied in a hybrid optomechanical system (HOMS). Due to the interaction between the mechanical mode and the double quantum dots system, double optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) arises in the HOMS. With the assistance of a driving field, the system can be tuned to switch on any one of the two OMIT windows, switch on both of the two OMIT windows or switch off both of the two OMIT windows by dynamically adjusting control of the optical field and the driving field. Furthermore, the transmitted probe fields of the two OMIT windows can be tuned to be absorbed or amplified with proper parameters of the driving field and control field. Moreover, the transmission properties of the two OMIT windows are asymmetrical. One can obtain the maximum group delay time of the probe field by optimizing the amplitude and phase of the driving field. These results provide a new way for constructing optically controlled nanostructured photonic switch and storage devices.

Optical bistability and absorption characteristic of an optomechanical system embedded with double quantum dot and nonlinear medium

Surabhi Yadav, Vijay Bhatt, Aranya B. Bhattacherjee +2 more

Abstract Objective: This paper theoretically studies a hybrid optomechanical system embedded with two coupled quantum dots (CQDs) and a third-order Kerr nonlinear medium inside the cavity. The optical bistability and absorption spectrum are analyzed for the proposed system. Methods: From the Hamiltonian which describes the proposed system, a set of quantum Langevin equations are derived. Using these equations of motion, the steady-state mean field analysis is done which gives the phenomena of optical bistability. The performance of the optical switch is also analyzed in terms of gain and switching ratio. Further, the absorption spectrum of the system is derived and analyzed from the fluctuation dynamics. Results: The optical bistability has the potential to design tunable all-optical switches. The absorption spectra display peculiar characteristics of negative absorption (transparency dip). The transparency dips are found to be strongly dependent on the frequency of the mechanical resonator. The results of our investigation reveal that the proposed system can be used as an optical switch and has numerous other applications in quantum communication systems.
