Abstract

This paper considers a secure communication through multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system employing orthogonal space-frequency block coding (OSFBC) in$\alpha-\mu$fading scenario over frequency selective fading channel. The authors are intended to protect the signals from eavesdropping in consideration of the effect of fading parameters$\alpha$and$\mu$. On the basis of closed-form analytical expressions for the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PNSC) and the secure outage probability (SOP), in this paper, authors developed a mathematical model to ensure the security in the presence of single eavesdropper. The developed model helps to understand the effects of system parameters. The results show that the security in the proposed model is sensitive to the fading parameters and this effect is high for the upper values of signal to noise ratio of the main channel.

High SNR secrecy rates with OFDM signaling over fading channels

Francesco Renna, Nicola Laurenti, H. Vincent Poor

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems have enjoyed widespread adoption in high data rate wired and wireless networks, due to their ability to efficiently cope with slowly varying dispersive channels. This paper considers the information theoretic secrecy rates that are achievable by an OFDM transmitter/receiver pair in the presence of an eavesdropper that might either use an OFDM structure or choose a more complex receiver architecture. The analysis is performed through modeling of the OFDM system with an eavesdropper as a special case of a high dimensional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wiretap channel, which allows the secrecy loss due to the OFDM structure constraints, and the information gain for an eavesdropper that uses a more complex receiver to be quantified. The results are expressed in terms of both ergodic rates and outage probabilities for multipath Rayleigh fading channels, and in terms of dependence on the signal to noise ratio (SNR) ratio between the main and eavesdropper channels.

Physical-Layer Secrecy for OFDM Transmissions Over Fading Channels

Francesco Renna, Nicola Laurenti, H. Vincent Poor

This paper considers the information theoretic secrecy rates that are achievable by an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmitter/receiver pair in the presence of an eavesdropper that might either use an OFDM structure or choose a more complex receiver architecture. The analysis is made possible by modeling the system as a particular instance of a high dimensional multiple-input multiple-output wiretap channel. The secrecy capacity is formulated as a maximization problem under a trace constraint, and simple expressions are given for its high signal-to-noise (SNR) limit. The low rate limit of the secrecy outage probability is also evaluated under a fading channel model. As for the finite SNR case, the secrecy rates that can be achieved with particular inputs are considered. Numerical results are provided under a Rayleigh fading channel model and under dependence of the main and eavesdropper channels. The secrecy loss due to the OFDM structure constraints, and the information gain for an eavesdropper that uses a more complex receiver, are also considered.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of SIMO Systems Over Correlated $\kappa$ –$\mu$ Shadowed Fading Channels

Jiangfeng Sun, Hongxia Bie, Xingwang Li +3 more

In this paper, the secrecy performance of single-input-multiple-output systems over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels is investigated. In particular, based on the classic Wyner's wiretap model, we derive analytical expressions for secure outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels. In order to further study the impact of channel parameters on the secrecy performance, novel SOP and the probability of SPSC over independent and identically distributed κ-μ shadowed fading channels are also obtained. In addition, we discuss the asymptotic expressions of the SOP and the SPSC. The match between the analytical results and simulations is excellent for all parameters under considerations. It is interesting to find that the results show that when the signal-to-noise ratio of the main channel is lower than that of the eavesdropping channel, the larger value of correlation coefficient is helpful to improve the secrecy performance and vice versa.

Secrecy Analysis of a TAS/MRC Scheme in $\alpha-\mu$ Fading Channels

Jules Merlin Moualeu, Daniel Benevides da Costa, F. Javier López‐Martínez +3 more

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with transmit antenna selection (TAS) and maximal-ratio combining (MRC) over generalized α-μ fading. In the underlying wireless communication system, a single antenna is selected to transmit confidential messages to a multi-antenna receiver in the presence of a passive multi-antenna eavesdropper. In our analysis, new closed-form expressions are obtained for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC), and are subsequently corroborated through Monte Carlo simulations to assess their validity. Moreover, asymptotic studies of the secrecy outage probability are derived and explicitly show the effects of various system parameters on the secrecy diversity gain.

Transmit Antenna Selection in Secure MIMO Systems Over $\alpha-\mu$ Fading Channels

Jules Merlin Moualeu, Daniel Benevides da Costa, F. Javier López‐Martínez +3 more

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of multiple-input multiple-output systems under generalized α - μ fading conditions. To this end, we focus on two distinct scenarios: 1) the transmitter has knowledge of the channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper channel and 2) the transmitter is not aware of the CSI of the wiretap link. By considering transmit antenna selection in the underlying system, we develop closedform analytical expressions for the lower bound of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the probability of the strictly positive secrecy capacity. Furthermore, two novel approaches are proposed to derive an analytical expression of the average secrecy capacity (ASC). First, the ASC is expressed as a function of the average capacity of the desired link and an interaction term regarded as the ASC loss. Second, the ASC is expressed in terms of the average capacities of the desired and eavesdropper links, plus an interaction term that can be regarded as some sort of ASC gain due to the statistical independence between the desired and eavesdropper links. In addition, asymptotic studies of the SOP and the ASC at high signal-to-noise ratio are carried out, which precisely reveal the secrecy diversity and array gains.

Secure Wireless Multicasting through Nakagami-m Fading Channels with Multi-Hop Relaying

Md Mizanur Rahman, Md. Zahurul I. Sarkar, Mohammad Mahmud Hasan

The additional diversity gain provided by the relays improves the secrecy capacity of communications system significantly. The multiple hops in the relaying system is an important technique to improve this diversity gain. The development of an analytical mathematical model of ensuring security in multicasting through fading channels incorporating this benefit of multi-hop relaying is still an open problem. Motivated by this issue, this paper considers a secure wireless multicasting scenario employing multi-hop relaying technique over frequency selective Nakagami-m fading channel and develops an analytical mathematical model to ensure the security against multiple eavesdroppers. This mathematical model has been developed based on the closed-form analytical expressions of the probability of non-zero secrecy multicast capacity (PNSMC) and the secure outage probability for multicasting (SOPM) to ensure the security in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. Moreover, the effects of the fading parameter of multicast channel, the number of hops and eavesdropper are investigated. The results show that the security in multicasting through Nakagami-m fading channel with multi-hop relaying system is more sensitive to the number of hops and eavesdroppers. The fading of multicast channel helps to improve the secrecy multicast capacity and is not the enemy of security in multicasting.
