Abstract

The effect of self-pumped phase conjugation (SPPC) of the light beam in the inverted laser crystal (LC) with the feedback loop was investigated in recent years. The possibility of SPPC in the reciprocal loop scheme is concerned with the refractive index grating which occurs due to difference of polarizability of the Nd ions in the metastable and the ground states [1]. The high efficiency of multipass geometry in the phase conjugation systems based on the laser crystals have been demonstrated for the degenerate four-wave mixing processes [2].

Summary form only given. The effect of self-pumped phase conjugation (SPPC) of the light beam in the inverted laser crystal (LC) by the parametric generation in the scheme with the feedback loop (FL) has been investigated in recent years. In this report we present the investigations of the SPPC by the stimulated resonance scattering (SRnS) in the inverted Nd:YAG-rod with the reciprocal FL.

Self-pumped phase conjugation of the light beam in an inverted Nd:YAG-rod with the reciprocal feedback loop was studied. The effect was caused by the simultaneous stimulated resonance scattering of the light waves (the incindent wave and the one passing through FL) in the laser crystal.

Role of resonant refractive-index grating in a nonreciprocal Nd:YAG self-pumped phase conjugator

Oleg L. Antipov, Dmitry V. Chausov, Vladimir V. Yarovoy

We have studied both experimentally and numerically the role of resonant refractive index gratings in a self-pumped phase conjugate mirror based on an Nd:YAG amplifier with nonreciprocal feedback loop. In experiment the generation of the phase-conjugating laser was delayed with respect to recording of a holographic nonlinear mirror by an external beam. An increase in the phase-conjugate reflectivity at a delay time of about 3 microseconds was measured. The numerical calculation confirmed the additional contribution of the resonant refractive-index grating, which is formed in the pumped Nd:YAG crystal due to excitation of a higher-lying level of Nd3+ ions, to efficiency of phase conjugation.

Laser amplifier with the feedback loop as self-pumped phase conjugator of the light beam

Oleg L. Antipov, Sergey I. Belyaev, Alexander S. Kuzhelev

Self-pumped phase conjugation of the light beam in an inverted Nd:YAG-crystal with the different schemes of the feedback loop has been studied experimentally and theoretically. The quality of the phase conjugation of space heterogeneous beam, and the vibrational resistance for different polarizations of the input beam were investigated. The thresholds of parametric generation of the phase conjugated beam in the inverted media with real and imaginary parts of the nonlinear susceptibility are discussed.

Phase conjugation of orthogonal polarized laser beams in inverted Nd:YAG-rod

Oleg L. Antipov, Sergey I. Belyaev, A.S. Kuzhelev

It is well known that inverted laser crystals have a strong inertial optical nonlinearity that is connected with changing of susceptibility by saturation of laser transition. The phase conjugation (PC) of laser beams by parametric oscillation in resonator with holographic mirror induced by means of mutually-coherent pumping waves in an inverted laser crystal was discussed.1,2 In our work, the phase conjugation of laser beams in loop scheme with an inverted Nd:YAG-rod (where two near-counter-running light beams with orthogonal polarization intersected) was investigated.

Effect of pump beam propagation on transient degenerate four-wave mixing in saturable Nd:YAG amplifiers

A. Brignon, Jean‐Pierre Huignard

Phase distortion correction of an optical wave propagating in laser media is a crucial problem to be taken into account in most of laser systems. For this purpose, phase conjugation through stimulated Brillouin scattering using the master oscillator-power amplification configuration has shown a very good potential to obtain high beam quality in solid-state lasers that operate at variable repetition rates. Another attractive alternative to generate the phase-conjugate wavefronts is to use a four-wave mixing (DFWM) process in the laser amplifier. In this medium, the interference between the interacting beams leads to a spatial modulation of the complex susceptibility of the medium by gain saturation (amplitude gain grating). This all-solid-state solution presents the advantage of suppressing the external nonlinear medium and would realize the required functions in the laser medium itself. Moreover, due to the amplification experienced by all the interacting beams, associated to the resonant nonlinearity of the gain saturation, high reflectivities already have been achieved in Nd:YAG amplifiers using a multipass geometry.1,2
