Abstract

Quantum entanglement is an indispensable resource for implementing quantum information processing. The scale of quantum entanglement directly determines its quantum information processing capability. Therefore, it is of great importance to generate ultra-large-scale (ULS) quantum entanglement for the development of quantum information science and technology. Many efforts have been made to increase the scale of quantum entanglement. Recently, time-domain multiplexing has been introduced into continuous-variable (CV) quantum systems to greatly enlarge the scale of quantum entanglement. In this Letter, based on a time-delayed quantum interferometer, we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a scheme for generating an ULS CV deterministic entanglement containing 2×20 400 optical modes. In addition, such ULS entanglement contains 81 596 squeezed modes. Our results provide a new platform for implementing ULS CV quantum information processing.

Deterministic Entanglement of Large-Scale Hermite-Gaussian Modes

Xutong Wang, Jietai Jing

Continuous-variable (CV) entanglement constitutes a powerful approach to deterministic quantum information protocols. Improving the scale of entanglement is of vital importance for enhancing the information capacity of quantum information protocols. Here we demonstrate the deterministic generation of CV entanglement of large-scale Hermite-Gaussian (HG) modes from the four-wave mixing (FWM) process in an atomic vapor. In our experiment, 56 pairs of entangled HG modes are deterministically and simultaneously generated from the FWM process, which increases the number of entangled spatial mode pairs in the CV system. Meanwhile, we experimentally verify the existence of CV entanglement between the evolution process from HG mode to Laguerre-Gaussian mode. Our results shed light on constructing high-capacity CV quantum information protocols and provide a promising platform to study CV entanglement.

Large-Scale Quantum Network over 66 Orbital Angular Momentum Optical Modes

Wei Wang, Kai Zhang, Jietai Jing

Multipartite entanglement (ME) is the fundamental ingredient for building quantum networks. The scale of ME determines its quantum information carrying and processing capability. Most of the current efforts for boosting the scale of ME focus on increasing the number of entangled nodes. However, the number of channels for broadcasting ME is also an important index for characterizing its scale. In this Letter, we experimentally exploit orbital angular momentum multiplexing and the spatial pump shaping technique to simultaneously and deterministically generate 11 channels of individually accessible and mutually orthogonal continuous variable (CV) spatially separated hexapartite entangled states over 66 optical modes in a single quantum system. These results suggest that our method can greatly expand the scale of ME and provide a new perspective and platform to construct a CV quantum network.

Multipartite continuous-variable optical quantum entanglement: Generation and application

Warit Asavanant, Akira Furusawa

Quantum entanglement is a fundamental resource for various quantum applications and generation of large-scale entanglement is a key quantum technology. In recent years, continuous-variable optical systems have shown promising results in this direction, thanks to deterministic generation and multiplexing via rich degrees of freedom naturally occurring in the optical system. In this paper, we review the generation and applications of multipartite optical quantum entanglement. We begin with a theoretical overview of how to represent and verify multimode continuous-variable quantum states and entanglement. Then, we discuss the multiplexing technique in time, frequency, and spatial domains, and their applications in generation of large-scale entangled states. Afterward, we review the current status and development of the basic technology used in the generation of multipartite quantum entanglement. Finally, we discuss the applications of large-scale quantum entanglement and possible future perspectives. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Multi-mode quantum correlation generated from an unbalanced SU(1,1) interferometer using ultra-short laser pulses as pump

Xueshi Guo, Wen Zhao, Xiaoying Li +1 more

Multi-mode entanglement is one of the critical resource in quantum information technology. Generating large scale multi-mode entanglement state by coherently combining time-delayed continuous variables Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs with linear beam-splitters has been widely studied recently. Here we theoretically investigate the multi-mode quantum correlation property of the optical fields generated from an unbalanced SU(1,1) interferometer pumped ultra-short pulses, which generates multi-mode entangled state by using a non-degenerate parametric processes to coherently combine delayed Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs in different frequency band. The covariance matrix of the generated multi-mode state is derived analytically for arbitrary mode number $M$ within adjacent timing slot, which shows a given mode is maximally correlated to 5 other modes. Based on the derived covariance matrix, both photon number correlation and quadrature amplitude correlation of the generated state is analyzed. We also extend our analyzing method to the scheme of generating entangled state by using linear beam splitter as a coherent combiner of delayed EPR pairs, and compare the states generated by the two coherently combining schemes. Our result provides a comprehensive theoretical description on the quantum correlations generated from an unbalanced SU(1,1) interferometer within Gaussian system range, and will offer more perspectives to quantum information technology.

We explain our approach to quantum computers based on continuous variables in quantum optics. We deterministically exploit squeezed states for creating entanglements. We successfully generated ultralarge- scale cluster states by employing the time-domain multiplexing strategy. Cluster states are entanglement resources for measurement-based universal quantum computation.

Deterministic generation of large-scale hyperentanglement in three degrees of freedom

Xutong Wang, Shengkai Yu, Shengshuai Liu +4 more

Entanglement serves as a fundamental resource for quantum information protocols, and hyperentanglement has received an increasing amount of attention for its high-capacity characteristic. Increasing the scale of hyperentanglement, i.e., the number of modes in a hyperentangled system, is crucial for enhancing its capability in quantum information processing. Here, we demonstrate the generation of large-scale continuous-variable (CV) hyperentanglement in three degrees of freedom (DOFs), including azimuthal and radial indices of Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) modes and frequency. In our experiment, 216 pairs of hyperentangled modes are deterministically generated from the four-wave mixing process in an atomic vapor. In addition, we show that the entanglement between coherent LG superposition modes denoted by both azimuthal and radial quantum numbers can also be generated from this system. Such large-scale CV hyperentanglement in three DOFs presents an efficient scheme to significantly increase the information capacity of the CV system. Our results provide a new platform for studying CV quantum information and open the avenue for constructing high-capacity parallel and multiple-DOF CV quantum information protocols.
