On the complete weight distributions of quantum error-correcting codes

Abstract

In a recent paper, Hu et al. defined the complete weight distributions of quantum codes and proved the MacWilliams identities, and as applications they showed how such weight distributions may be used to obtain the singleton-type and hamming-type bounds for asymmetric quantum codes. In this paper we extend their study much further and obtain several new results concerning the complete weight distributions of quantum codes and applications. In particular, we provide a new proof of the MacWilliams identities of the complete weight distributions of quantum codes. We obtain new information about the weight distributions of quantum MDS codes and the double weight distribution of asymmetric quantum MDS codes. We get new identities involving the complete weight distributions of two different quantum codes. We estimate the complete weight distributions of quantum codes under special conditions and show that quantum BCH codes by the Hermitian construction from primitive, narrow-sense BCH codes satisfy these conditions and hence these estimate applies.

Complete Weight Distributions and MacWilliams Identities for Asymmetric Quantum Codes

Chuangqiang Hu, Shudi Yang, Stephen S.‐T. Yau

In 1997, Shor and Laflamme defined the weight enumerators for quantum error-correcting codes and derived a MacWilliams identity. We extend their work by introducing our double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators for qubit codes and then investigate the MacWilliams identities for these enumerators. Based on the generalized MacWilliams identities, we solve an open problem, namely, the Singleton-type bound for asymmetric quantum codes (AQCs). Besides, the Hamming-type and the first linear-programming-type bounds for the AQCs are deduced similarly.

Mixed-dimensional quantum MacWilliams identity: Bounds for codes and absolutely maximally entangled states in heterogeneous systems

David González-Lociga, Simeon Ball

As emerging quantum architectures evolve into heterogeneous networks combining different physical substrates, such as qubits for logic and higher-dimensional qudits for robust communication, the traditional scalar metrics of quantum error correction become insufficient. To address this, we introduce a mathematical framework based on dimension multisets to characterize quantum error-correcting codes (QECC) and absolutely maximally entangled (AME) states in mixed-dimensional Hilbert spaces. By replacing scalar weights with multisets, we accurately capture the exact physical composition of error supports across these diverse systems. Our central result is the mixed-dimensional quantum MacWilliams identity, which establishes the formal algebraic relationship between Shor-Laflamme enumerators and unitary weight enumerators. From this foundation, we deduce the mixed-dimensional shadow identity and derive rigorous, generalized constraints on code parameters, explicitly formulating the mixed-dimensional quantum Hamming, Singleton and Scott bounds, and developing a linear program to systematically evaluate code viability. For the Singleton bound, a tighter bound that has no homogeneous analogue is derived for pure mixed-dimensional codes. Finally, we deploy this enumerator machinery to thoroughly analyze AME states, utilizing shadow inequalities to constrain their existence and introducing a combinatorial grid method for the explicit construction of mixed-dimensional tripartite AME states.

Complete Weight Distribution and MacWilliams Identities for Asymmetric Quantum Codes

Chuangqiang Hu, Shudi Yang, Stephen S.‐T. Yau

In 1997, Shor and Laflamme defined the weight enumerators for quantum error-correcting codes and derived a MacWilliams identity. We extend their work by introducing our double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators. The MacWilliams identities for these enumerators can be obtained similarly. With the help of MacWilliams identities, we obtain various bounds for asymmetric quantum codes.

Three MacWilliams type identities and quantum error-correcting $ G $ -codes

Chuangxun Cheng, Xiaoguang Shang

We prove three MacWilliams type identities for irreducible projective representations of finite groups. As an application, we deduce the MacWilliams identities of weight enumerators, double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators for quantum error-correcting $ G $-codes and obtain the Singleton bounds.

ON TWO PROBLEMS OF ASYMMETRIC QUANTUM CODES

Ruihu Li, Genqi Xu, Luobin Guo

In this paper, we discuss two problems on asymmetric quantum error-correcting codes (AQECCs). The first one is on the construction of a [[12, 1, 5/3]]2asymmetric quantum code, we show an impure [[12, 1, 5/3 ]]2exists. The second one is on the construction of AQECCs from binary cyclic codes, we construct many families of new asymmetric quantum codes with dz> δmax+1 from binary primitive cyclic codes of length n = 2m-1, where δmax= 2⌈m/2⌉-1 is the maximal designed distance of dual containing narrow sense BCH code of length n = 2m-1. A number of known codes are special cases of the codes given here. Some of these AQECCs have parameters better than the ones available in the literature.

SYMMETRIC AND ASYMMETRIC QUANTUM CODES

Kenza Guenda, Thomas Aaron Gulliver

The asymmetric CSS construction is extended to the Hermitian dual case. New infinite families of quantum symmetric and asymmetric codes are constructed. In particular, new quantum codes are obtained from binary BCH codes and MDS codes. These codes have known minimum distances and thus the relationship between the rate gain and minimum distance is given explicitly. The codes obtained are shown to have parameters better than those of previous codes. A number of known codes are special cases of the codes given here.
