This paper proposes a novel key distribution method based on the masking effect of fiber channel noise in a power transmission system. The two physical layer signal processing technologies used in this solution are frame synchronization and resampling. The random data sent and received is digitally processed by these two techniques. An experimental platform is built, and the key performance is assessed by analyzing the measured bit error rate (BER) dynamic curve, setting different decision thresholds and the amplitude of the state basis. Experimental results show that the key distribution rate can reach 10 kbit/s with a key consistency rate of 98%. This is of great significance to the development of safe optical communication technology in power transmission systems. In the power communication system, a large number of optical fiber communication devices are used. The key distribution method proposed in this paper can effectively improve the security of optical fiber communication, which is of great significance.

This paper proposes a novel key distribution system based on the measurement of the bit error rate (BER) in a fiber channel. By carrying out the loopback BER measurement at both the transmitting and the receiving end, the BER is quantified and codified to generate consistency keys. Alice and Bob respectively encrypt the signal with the help of the public key base at the transmitting end. At the receiving end the data are decrypted and then the BER is measured. The security of generated keys in the system is enhanced by the use of the encryption base and the randomness of the channel. Additionally, noise sources are added to the channel so that the random noise conceals signals and Eve cannot eavesdrop the useful information in it. Due to the randomness of the channel noise, the generated keys have good randomness. This system at a high key generation rate is compatible with the existing communication device and its measurement is simple. The 10G bit/s-200 km coherent optical communication system is used to measure the BER of the security feature information of the extracted channel. The experimental results show that the key distribution system obtains a consistency rate of 98% with the key generation rate 2 Mbps, both of which have been significantly improved.
This paper proposes a key distribution system based on short-time correlation of optical fiber channels. The communicating parties adopt the odd-even interleaved data transmission method to send binary random number sequences to each other. Taking advantage of the close arrangement of data parity, the data obtained by the communicating parties has short-time correlation characteristics. By analyzing the bit error rate (BER) of the transmitted data, quantizing and encoding the BER, and executing the key negotiation protocol, the short-time correlation characteristics of the channel can be extracted, and the original key with good consistency can be obtained. The experimental results show that when the optical fiber length between Alice and Bob is 40 km, the signal is modulated by Quadrature Phase Shift Keying with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (QPSK-OFDM), the signal transmission rate is 1 Gbit/s, and the channel BER is about 0.2, the change trend of the BER sampling values measured by Alice and Bob has good consistency. After the BER sampling value is quantized and encoded, the original key with a consistency rate of 95.93% is finally obtained. We further analyze the impact of the quantization threshold on the number of keys and key error rate under different BER. When L = 50, L×ασ = 2.5, and BER = 0.12, 146 keys can be obtained, and the key error rate is 0, which is the best key generation effect.
With the increase in the popularity of cloud computing and big data applications, the amount of sensitive data transmitted through optical networks has increased dramatically. Furthermore, optical transmission systems face various security risks at the physical level. We propose a novel key distribution scheme based on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurements to extract the fingerprint of the fiber channel and improve the physical level of security. The SNR varies with time because the fiber channel is affected by many physical characteristics, such as dispersion, polarization, scattering, and amplifier noise. The extracted SNR of the optical fiber channel can be used as the basis of key generation. Alice and Bob can obtain channel characteristics by measuring the SNR of the optical fiber channel and generate the consistent key by quantization coding. The security and consistency of the key are guaranteed by the randomness and reciprocity of the channel. The simulation results show that the key generation rate (KGR) can reach 25 kbps, the key consistency rate (KCR) can reach 98% after key post-processing, and the error probability of Eve’s key is ~50%. In the proposed scheme, the equipment used is simple and compatible with existing optic fiber links.
A Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) based Physical Layer Security (PLS) scheme (QKD-PLS) for optical fiber links is proposed and evaluated. In detail, a novel amplitude and phase scrambling technique for exploiting and seamlessly integrating high key rate QKD for the encryption of the modulation parameters of conventional complex modulation schemes like M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is described. The technique masks the information at the bit level and blocks unauthorized access to the higher layer encrypted bitstream. Scrambling is applied to both the preamble (pilot) and payload segments of the transmission frame, to prevent the eavesdroppers from performing vital receiver functions such as frame synchronization and channel estimation. Additionally, a practical Key Management System (KMS) which takes care of all synchronization processes is developed and introduced. Experimental transmission scenario in fiber links is also presented and depicts the efficacy of the QKD-PLS. Moreover, another advantage of QKD exploitation to the proposed solution comes from the application of kbps-rate QKD keys which feed pseudo-random number generators, to modify the broadband modulation symbols in one-time pad, therefore significantly improving data protection.
In this article, we propose a high-security transmission scheme of power division 3-D carrier-less amplitude and phase (PD-3D-CAP) based on polling-permutation encryption and noise masking key distribution. By implementing the 6D Lorenz digital chaotic system, we scramble the 3D-CAP signal, effectively enhancing the security performance of the system. In our scheme, the proposed noise-masking key distribution can be considered noise-like and transmitted along with the chaotic encrypted signal in the channel. It is important to note that our mechanism also enables uninterrupted authentication and decryption at the receiver to handle continuous key updates. We experimentally demonstrate the transmission of a 12.67 Gb/s 3D-CAP signal over a 2 km 7-core fiber using the proposed scheme. The scheme allows for simultaneous key transmission without a significant increase in the bit error rate. Additionally, we compare the performance of the PD-3D-CAP scheme to that of the PD-2D-CAP scheme, and observe a sensitivity gain of 0.4 dB with the proposed PD-3D-CAP scheme.
The new power system is the national development strategy and development direction of smart grid. Communication is the basis of the development of the new power system. in the distribution automation business, communication is the weakest link. In order to make electric power communication develop more smoothly, we should improve our awareness of security issues. Because of the particularity of electric power communication, it often has very high requirements for the security of communication. In order to effectively ensure the security of electric power communication data, data encryption technology can be applied to the data transmission process, and the security of information transmission can be improved through the application of encryption and decryption keys.Physical layer key generation technology is a security technology that uses wireless channel characteristics as a random source to generate keys. This technology uses the anisotropy, time variation and spatial uniqueness of wireless channels to generate random sequences, which is different from traditional encryption methods. Physical layer key generation technology does not require the key management and distribution of a third party trusted organization. In theory, it can achieve one encryption at a time to achieve the absolute security of Shannon confidential communication[1]. This paper first briefly introduces the wireless channel physical layer key generation model and the general process of key generation scheme based on channel feature quantization, and then studies the improved optimization scheme based on traditional channel detection, preprocessing and quantization algorithm, so as to effectively improve the key generation performance.
