Generalized Fermi sea for plane-wave Hartree-Fock theory. II. Semi-realistic interactions in three dimensions

The possibility of abnormally occupying plane-wave Hartree-Fock determinants is studied analytically for several many-fermion systems interacting with short- and long-ranged pair potentials in three dimensions. Lower energy states are found in some cases, but they always depend sensitively on the shape of the potential as well as on the amount of space exchange present in the interaction.NUCLEAR STRUCTURE Plane-wave Hartree-Fock, nuclear matter.

Nuclear Saturation: A Generalized Hartree-Fock Method

Richard J. Eden

The Hartree self-consistent method is generalized to apply to a system with strong two-body correlations. The generalized Hartree method is shown to be equivalent to solving a self-consistent equation for the mutual interaction of two particles moving in average fields together with a Hartree-Fock variational problem. In this form the method is equivalent to, and provides a simple explanation of, the nuclear saturation procedure used by Brueckner, Levinson, and Mahmoud.
