Abstract

We employ an exact solution of the thermal bath Lindblad master equation with the Liouvillian superoperator that takes into account both dynamic and environment-induced intermode couplings to study the speed of evolution and quantum speed limit (QSL) times of a open multi-mode bosonic system. The time-dependent QSL times are defined from quantum speed limits, giving upper bounds on the rate of change of two different measures of distinguishability: the fidelity of evolution and the Hilbert-Schmidt distance. For Gaussian states, we derive explicit expressions for the evolution speed and the QSL times. General analytical results are applied to the special case of a two-mode system where the intermode couplings can be characterized by two intermode coupling vectors: the frequency vector and the relaxation rate vector. For the system initially prepared in a two-mode squeezed state, dynamical regimes are generally determined by the intermode coupling vectors, the squeezing parameter and temperature. When the vectors are parallel, different regimes may be associated with the disentanglement time, which is found to be an increasing (a decreasing) function of the length of the relaxation vector when the squeezing parameter is below (above) its temperature-dependent critical value. Alternatively, we study dynamical regimes related to the long-time asymptotic behavior of the QSL times, which is characterized by linear time dependence with the proportionality coefficients defined as the long-time asymptotic ratios. These coefficients are evaluated as a function of the squeezing parameter at varying temperatures and relaxation vector lengths. We also discuss how the magnitude and orientation of the intermode coupling vectors influence the maximum speed of evolution and dynamics of the entropy and the mutual information.

Lindblad Dynamics and Disentanglement in Multi-Mode Bosonic Systems

Alexei D. Kiselev, Ranim Ali, Andrei V. Rybin

In this paper, we consider the thermal bath Lindblad master equation to describe the quantum nonunitary dynamics of quantum states in a multi-mode bosonic system. For the two-mode bosonic system interacting with an environment, we analyse how both the coupling between the modes and the coupling with the environment characterised by the frequency and the relaxation rate vectors affect dynamics of the entanglement. We discuss how the revivals of entanglement can be induced by the dynamic coupling between the different modes. For the system, initially prepared in a two-mode squeezed state, we find the logarithmic negativity as defined by the magnitude and orientation of the frequency and the relaxation rate vectors. We show that, in the regime of finite-time disentanglement, reorientation of the relaxation rate vector may significantly increase the time of disentanglement.

Lindblad dynamics of open multi-mode bosonic systems: Algebra of bilinear superoperators, exceptional points and speed of evolution

Andrei Gaidash, Alexei D. Kiselev, Козубов Антон Владимирович +1 more

We develop the algebraic method based on the Lie algebra of quadratic combinations of left and right superoperators associated with matrices to study the Lindblad dynamics of multimode bosonic systems coupled a thermal bath and described by the Liouvillian superoperator that takes into account both dynamical (coherent) and environment mediated (incoherent) interactions between the modes. Our algebraic technique is applied to transform the Liouvillian into the diagonalized form by eliminating jump superoperators and solve the spectral problem. The temperature independent effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, $\hat{H}_{eff}$, is found to govern both the diagonalized Liouvillian and the spectral properties. It is shown that the Liouvillian exceptional points are represented by the points in the parameter space where the matrix, $H$, associated with $\hat{H}_{eff}$ is non-diagonalizable. We use our method to derive the low-temperature approximation for the superpropagator and to study the special case of a two mode system representing the photonic polarization modes. For this system, we describe the geometry of exceptional points in the space of frequency and relaxation vectors parameterizing the intermode couplings and, for a single-photon state, evaluate the time dependence of the speed of evolution as a function of the angles characterizing the couplings and the initial state.

Quantum speed of evolution in a Markovian bosonic environment

Paulina Marian, Tudor A. Marian

We present explicit evaluations of quantum speed limit times pertinent to the Markovian dynamics of an open continuous-variable system. Specifically, we consider the standard setting of a cavity mode of the quantum radiation field weakly coupled to a thermal bosonic reservoir. The evolution of the field state is ruled by the quantum optical master equation, which is known to have an exact analytic solution. Starting from a pure input state, we employ two indicators of how different the initial and evolved states are, namely, the fidelity of evolution and the Hilbert-Schmidt distance of evolution. The former was introduced by del Campo et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 050403 (2013)], who derived a time-independent speed limit for the evolution of a Markovian open system. We evaluate it for this field-reservoir setting, with an arbitrary input pure state of the field mode. The resultant formula is then specialized to the coherent and Fock states. On the other hand, we exploit an alternative approach that employs both indicators of evolution mentioned above. Their rates of change have the same upper bound, and consequently, provide a unique time-dependent quantum speed limit. It turns out that the associate quantum speed limit time built with the Hilbert-Schmidt metric is tighter than the fidelity-based one. As apposite applications, we investigate the damping of the coherent and Fock states by using the characteristic functions of the corresponding evolved states. General expressions of both the fidelity and the Hilbert-Schmidt distance of evolution are obtained and analyzed for these two classes of input states. In the case of a coherent state, we derive accurate formulas for their common speed limit and the pair of associate limit times. We also find exact expressions of the same quantities in the limiting case of thermalization of the vacuum state, as well as for dissipation of one- and two-photon states.

Geometric versus Entropic Gaussian Correlations in an Open Quantum System of Two Bosonic Modes

Alina Stoica, Аурелиан Исар

Different types of geometric and entropic quantum correlation quantifiers are studied for a system composed of two resonant bosonic modes embedded in a thermal bath. The description of the evolution of the correlation measures is formulated in the framework of the theory of open systems, based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, by using both a geometric and entropic quantification of total nonclassical correlations of Gaussian states. We consider the special case when the initial squeezed thermal state of the system preserves its form in time. We show that time evolution of the measures strongly depends on the parameters characterising the initial state of the system (squeezing parameter and average thermal photon numbers of the two modes) and of the thermal environment (temperature of the thermal bath and dissipation rate). In the limit of large times all the considered measures asymptotically tend to zero value, corresponding to an asymptotic bimodal uncorrelated product state. We make a comparison between the behaviour of the evolution in time of the Gaussian geometric quantum correlations and Gaussian entropic quantum correlations.

Coherence Dynamics of Two Interacting Bosonic Modes in a Thermal Environment

Аурелиан Исар

We describe the time evolution of the quantum coherence in an open system consisting of two coupled bosonic modes embedded in a thermal reservoir. We discuss the influence of the environment in terms of the covariance matrix for initial squeezed thermal states. The coherence is quantified using the relative entropy as a measure, and its dynamics is studied in the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups. We show that the evolution of the quantum coherence strongly depends on the initial state of the system (squeezing parameter and thermal photon numbers), the parameters characterizing the thermal reservoir (temperature and dissipation coefficient) and the intensity of the coupling between the two modes.

Dynamics of Entropy Production Rate in Two Coupled Bosonic Modes Interacting with a Thermal Reservoir

Tatiana Mihaescu, Аурелиан Исар

The Markovian time evolution of the entropy production rate is studied as a measure of irreversibility generated in a bipartite quantum system consisting of two coupled bosonic modes immersed in a common thermal environment. The dynamics of the system is described in the framework of the formalism of the theory of open quantum systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, for initial two-mode squeezed thermal states, squeezed vacuum states, thermal states and coherent states. We show that the rate of the entropy production of the initial state and nonequilibrium stationary state, and the time evolution of the rate of entropy production, strongly depend on the parameters of the initial Gaussian state (squeezing parameter and average thermal photon numbers), frequencies of modes, parameters characterising the thermal environment (temperature and dissipation coefficient), and the strength of coupling between the two modes. We also provide a comparison of the behaviour of entropy production rate and Rényi-2 mutual information present in the considered system.
