Abstract

We show how the coherent shaping of free-electron wavefunctions enables the construction of coherent grid states. We present a scheme to create Schrödinger cat and GKP states, which are sought-after for fault-tolerant photonic quantum computation.

We show how coherent modulation of free-electron wavefunctions can alter the quantum nature of the light they emit. We utilize this concept to create Schrödinger-cat and GKP states, which are sought-after for fault-tolerant quantum computation.

Free-electron interactions with photonic GKP states: error correction and universal quantum computation

Shiran Even-Haim, Gefen Baranes, Ron Ruimy +5 more

We find that interactions of coherently-shaped free electrons with photons enable universal quantum computation and error correction with GKP qubits. The electron can entangle multiple GKP qubits, creating GHZ and cluster states.

All-optical generation of states for “Encoding a qubit in an oscillator”

H. M. Vasconcelos, L. Sanz, Scott Glancy

Most quantum computation schemes propose encoding qubits in two-level systems. Others exploit the use of an infinite-dimensional system. In "Encoding a qubit in an oscillator" [Phys. Rev. A 64, 012310 (2001)], Gottesman, Kitaev, and Preskill (GKP) combined these approaches when they proposed a fault-tolerant quantum computation scheme in which a qubit is encoded in the continuous position and momentum degrees of freedom of an oscillator. One advantage of this scheme is that it can be performed by use of relatively simple linear optical devices, squeezing, and homodyne detection. However, we lack a practical method to prepare the initial GKP states. Here we propose the generation of an approximate GKP state by using superpositions of optical coherent states (sometimes called "Schrödinger cat states"), squeezing, linear optical devices, and homodyne detection.

Free-electron interactions with photonic GKP states: Universal control and quantum error correction

Gefen Baranes, Shiran Even-Haim, Ron Ruimy +5 more

We show that the coherent interaction between free electrons and photons can be used for universal control of continuous-variable photonic quantum states in the form of Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) qubits. Specifically, we find that electron energy combs enable nondestructive measurements of the photonic state and can induce arbitrary gates. Moreover, a single electron interacting with multiple photonic modes can create highly entangled states such as Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states and cluster states of GKPs.
