Abstract

We demonstrate squeezed light generation with parametric down-conversion single-pass configuration on thin-film lithium niobate nanophotonics. We measure 0.56 dB quadrature squeezing (∼2.6 dB inferred on-chip) with 7 THz bandwidth.

Ultra-broadband quadrature squeezing with thin-film lithium niobate nanophotonics

Pao-Kang Chen, Ian Briggs, Songyan Hou +1 more

Squeezed light is a key quantum resource that enables quantum advantages for sensing, networking, and computing applications. The scalable generation and manipulation of squeezed light with integrated platforms are highly desired for the development of quantum technology with continuous variables. In this Letter, we demonstrate squeezed light generation with thin-film lithium niobate integrated photonics. Parametric down-conversion is realized with quasi-phase matching using ferroelectric domain engineering. With sub-wavelength mode confinement, efficient nonlinear processes can be observed with single-pass configuration. We measure 0.56 ± 0.09 dB quadrature squeezing (∼2.6 dB inferred on-chip). The single-pass configuration further enables the generation of squeezed light with large spectral bandwidth up to 7 THz. This work represents a significant step towards the on-chip implementation of continuous-variable quantum information processing.

We demonstrate an on-chip telecom-wavelength squeezer using a periodically poled thin-film lithium niobate waveguide. With a single-pass, continuous-wave pump at 49 mW, we measure -0.64 dB squeezing and 4.30 dB anti-squeezing (11 dB inferred on-chip).

Picosecond pulsed squeezing in thin-film lithium niobate strip-loaded waveguides at telecommunication wavelengths

Daniel Peace, Alexander Zappacosta, Robert Čerňanský +4 more

Abstract Achieving a high level of pulsed squeezing, in a platform which offers integration and stability, is a key requirement for continuous-variable quantum information processing. Typically highly squeezed states are achieved with narrow band optical cavities and bulk crystals, limiting scalability. Using single-pass parametric down conversion in an integrated optical device, we demonstrate quadrature squeezing of picosecond pulses in a thin-film lithium niobate strip-loaded waveguide. For on-chip peak powers of less than 0.3 W, we measure up to −0.33 ± 0.07 dB of squeezing with an inferred on-chip value of −1.7 ± 0.4 dB. This work highlights the potential of the strip-loaded waveguide platform for broadband squeezing applications and the development of photonic quantum technologies.
