A quantum engineer's guide to superconducting qubits

Philip Krantz, Morten Kjærgaard, F. Yan +3 more

The aim of this review is to provide quantum engineers with an introductory guide to the central concepts and challenges in the rapidly accelerating field of superconducting quantum circuits. Over the past twenty years, the field has matured from a predominantly basic research endeavor to a one that increasingly explores the engineering of larger-scale superconducting quantum systems. Here, we review several foundational elements—qubit design, noise properties, qubit control, and readout techniques—developed during this period, bridging fundamental concepts in circuit quantum electrodynamics and contemporary, state-of-the-art applications in gate-model quantum computation.

Microwave Engineer’s Guide to the Design of Superconducting Qubit Circuits

Firat Solgun

Superconducting qubit circuits are one of the prime candidates for building the quantum computer. In this guide I will provide a complete microwave description of the superconducting qubit circuits consisting of the most popular superconducting qubit the "Transmon". Quantum interaction rate parameters related to simple impedance response formulas will allow microwave engineers to design and analyze superconducting qubit circuits without resorting to heavy machinery of quantum mechanical transformations. All formulas listed below are valid in the dispersive regime of low anharmonicity qubits. This work is a review of [1].

Enabling Technologies for Scalable Superconducting Quantum Computing

Xanthe Croot, Kasra Nowrouzi, Christopher Spitzer +21 more

Experiments with superconducting quantum processors have successfully demonstrated the basic functions needed for quantum computation and evidence of utility, albeit without a sizable array of error-corrected qubits. The realization of the full potential of quantum computing centers on achieving large scale fault-tolerant quantum computers. Science, engineering and industry advances are needed to robustly generate, sustain, and efficiently manipulate an exponentially large computational (Hilbert) space as well as supply the number and quality components needed for such a scaled system. In this article, we suggest critical areas of quantum system and ecosystem development, with respect to the handling and transmission of quantum information within and out of a cryogenic environment, that would accelerate the development of quantum computers based on superconducting circuits.
