Spontaneous four-wave mixing in microring resonators

L. G. Helt, Zhenshan S. Yang, Marco Liscidini +1 more

We consider spontaneous four-wave mixing in a microring resonator, presenting photon-pair generation rates and biphoton wave functions. We show how generation rates can be simply predicted from the performance of the device in the classical regime and that a wide variety of biphoton wave functions can be achieved by varying the pump pulse duration.

Photon-pair generation in a lossy microring resonator. I. Theory

Paul M. Alsing, Edwin E. Hach

We investigate entangled photon-pair generation in a lossy microring resonator using an input-output formalism based on the work of M. G. Raymer and C. J. McKinstrie [Phys. Rev. A 88, 043819 (2013)] and P. M. Alsing et al. [Phys. Rev. A 95, 053828 (2017)] that incorporates circulation factors that account for the multiple round-trips of the fields within the cavity. We consider the nonlinear processes of spontaneous parametric down-conversion and spontaneous four-wave mixing, and we compute the generated biphoton signal-idler state from a single-bus microring resonator, along with the generation, coincidence-to-accidental, and heralding efficiency rates. We compare these generalized results to those obtained by previous works employing the standard Langevin input-output formalism.

Photon-pair Generation by Spontaneous Four-wave Mixing in Integrated Optical Waveguides: a Nonlinear Time-domain Model

Gary F. Sinclair, Mark G. Thompson

We model photon-pair generation in the presence of parasitic nonlinearities such as self- and cross-phase modulation. The effect of these nonlinearities on the pair production rate and heralded photon purity is explored.

Four-wave mixing and generation of correlated photon pairs in silicon ring resonators and photonic molecules

Stefano Azzini, Davide Grassani, Michael John Strain +8 more

We study, both theoretically and experimentally, emission of correlated photon-pairs by spontaneous four-wave-mixing in silicon integrated resonators. We show that the number of generated pairs in the quantum experiment is predicted by a classical experiment.

Superspontaneous four-wave mixing in a sequence of lossy ring resonators

Amideddin Mataji‐Kojouri, Marco Liscidini

The authors study photon pair generation by superspontaneous four-wave mixing in single-channel and double-channel sequences of ring resonators in the presence of loss. They show that, in the presence of loss, superradiant photon-pair generation in single-channel sequences is achievable only when the resonators are either deeply over- or undercoupled.

Photon pair generation in leaky coupled-resonator optical waveguides via spontaneous four-wave mixing

Mohsen Kamandar Dezfouli, Marc M. Dignam

A fully quantum mechanical formalism is developed to calculate photon pair detection probabilities in leaky coupled-resonator optical waveguide. Using our formalism we have studied the effect of loss on pair evolution as well as higher order pair generations in the system.
