Self-Bound Quantum Droplet with Internal Stripe Structure in One-Dimensional Spin-Orbit-Coupled Bose Gas

Yuncheng Xiong, Lan Yin

We study the quantum-droplet state in a three-dimensional (3D) Bose gas in the presence of 1D spin-orbit coupling and Raman coupling, especially the stripe phase with density modulation, by numerically computing the ground state energy including the mean-field energy and Lee–Huang–Yang correction. In this droplet state, the stripe can exist in a wider range of Raman coupling, compared with the BEC-gas state. More intriguingly, both spin-orbit coupling and Raman coupling strengths can be used to tune the droplet density.

Spin–orbit coupling induced three-dimensional topological objects in attractive Bose–Einstein condensates

Liang-Liang Xu, Yong-Kai Liu, Shi-Jie Yang

Attractive Bose-Einstein condensates of dilute alkali gases are unstable against collapse in two- and three-dimensional free space. Nevertheless, we demonstrate that the spin-orbit coupling of the two-component condensates counteracts the tendency of collapse and makes the system preferable to an extended spatial distribution in the three-dimensional case. Furthermore, stable topological objects can be formed in the condensates, which are shown to be the lowest energy states. Two configurations of the density profiles, called three-dimensional skyrmion and three-dimensional dimeron, respectively, are identified depending on the strength of the spin-orbit coupling.

Quantum-fluctuation-induced superfluid density in two-dimensional spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates

Lijun Yang

We study a two-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ interacting Bose-Einstein condensate with a Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling. The analytical expression of the superfluid density is derived from the linear response theory and Bogoliubov approximation. We find that the superfluid density can be divided into three terms, which originate from the condensate, the interaction between the condensate and the Bogoliubov excitations, and only the excitations. We show that the condensate-excitation interaction changes the bare mass in the superfluid density into the effective mass. In the isotropic spin-orbit coupling limit, the effective mass diverges, and the superfluid density is predicted to be zero within previous studies; however, our work shows that the excitation-induced superfluid density remains nonzero, which means that quantum fluctuations rescue the superfluidity. Our results show the importance of the quantum fluctuations in understanding the superfluid properties of spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates.
