Abstract

Topological pumping of edge states in the finite lattice with nontrivial topological phases provides a powerful means for robust excitation transfer, requiring extremely slow evolution to follow an adiabatic transfer. Here, we propose fast topological pumping via edge channels to generate large-scale Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states in a topological superconducting circuit with a sped-up evolution process. The scheme indicates a conceptual way of designing fast topological pumping related to the instantaneous energy spectrum characteristics rather than relying on the shortcuts to adiabaticity. Based on fast topological pumping, large-scale GHZ states show greater robustness against on-site potential defects, the fluctuation of couplings and losses of the system in comparison with the conventional adiabatic topological pumping. With experimentally feasible qutrit-resonator coupling strengths and moderate decay rates of qutrits and resonators, fast topological pumping drastically improves the scalability of GHZ states with a high fidelity. Our work opens up prospects for the realization of large-scale GHZ states based on fast topological pumping in the superconducting quantum circuit system, which provides potential applications of topological matters in quantum information processing.

Large-scale Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states through a topologically protected zero-energy mode in a superconducting qutrit-resonator chain

Jin‐Xuan Han, Jin‐Lei Wu, Yan Wang +3 more

We propose a superconducting qutrit-resonator chain model, and analytically work out forms of its topological edge states. The existence of the zero-energy mode enables one to generate a state transfer between two ends of the chain, accompanied with state flips of all intermediate qutrits, based on which $N$-body Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states can be generated with great robustness against disorders of coupling strengths. Three schemes of generating large-scale GHZ states are designed, each of which possesses the robustness against loss of qutrits or of resonators, meeting a certain performance requirement of different experimental devices. With experimentally feasible qutrit-resonator coupling strengths and available coherence times of qutrits and resonators, it has a potential to generate large-scale GHZ states among dozens of qutrits with a high fidelity. Further, we show the experimental consideration of generating GHZ states based on the circuit QED system, and discuss the prospect of realizing fast GHZ states.

Efficient Large‐Scale Entanglement with Domain‐Divided Topological Synthetic Dimension

Jin‐Xuan Han, Jin‐Lei Wu, Yan Wang +3 more

Abstract The notion of synthetic dimensions in artificial systems has received considerable attention as it provides novel methods for exploring hypothetical topological matter as well as potential device applications. A superconducting qutrit‐resonator chain is mapped into domain‐divided Su‐Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) models in the synthetic dimension formed by product states of qutrits and Fock states, which renders single‐excitation transfers to mimic particle transports in 1D potential array. Large‐scale Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states can be generated in one‐domain SSH model of synthetic dimension via the topological protected edge channel. Uniquely, a two‐domain SSH model is constructed, and the wave function of the three topological protected states is analytically derived. It is shown that the effective coherent‐tunneling adiabatic passage (CTAP) enables fast large‐scale GHZ state can be generated via topological CTAP. Furthermore, four‐ and multi‐domain SSH models are identified to generate large‐scale GHZ states faster in larger sizes. Numerical results show that topologically generated large‐scale GHZ states exhibit excellent robustness against inevitable variation in ideal hopping rates and losses of systems. The work opens up prospects for realizing fast large‐scale GHZ states in multiple SSH models of synthetic dimension and for facilitating further applications of topological matter in quantum information processing.

Robust beam splitter with fast quantum state transfer through a topological interface

Jianing Zhang, Jin‐Xuan Han, Jin‐Lei Wu +2 more

The Su–Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) model, commonly used for robust state transfers through topologically protected edge pumping, has been generalized and exploited to engineer diverse functional quantum devices. Here, we propose to realize a fast topological beam splitter based on a generalized SSH model by accelerating the quantum state transfer (QST) process essentially limited by adiabatic requirements. The scheme involves delicate orchestration of the instantaneous energy spectrum through exponential modulation of nearest neighbor coupling strengths and onsite energies, yielding a significantly accelerated beam splitting process. Due to properties of topological pumping and accelerated QST, the beam splitter exhibits strong robustness against parameter disorders and losses of system. In addition, the model demonstrates good scalability and can be extended to two-dimensional crossed-chain structures to realize a topological router with variable numbers of output ports. Our work provides practical prospects for fast and robust topological QST in feasible quantum devices in large-scale quantum information processing.

Fast and high-fidelity generation of photonic Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in circuit QED

Jingwei Chen, Guan-Hao Feng, H. H. Zhang +1 more

Abstract A fast scheme to generate Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states between different cavities in circuit QED systems is proposed. To implement this scheme, we design a feasible experimental device with three qubits and three cavities. In this device, all the couplings between qubit and qubit, cavity and qubit are tunable and are independent with frequencies, and thus the shortcut to adiabaticity technique can be directly applied in our scheme. It is demonstrated that the GHZ state can be generated rapidly with high fidelity in our scheme.

Generating large-scale Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-like states in lattice spin systems

Xuanchen Zhang, Yaofeng Chen, Yong-Chun Liu

Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state is a typical maximally entangled state which is pursued in both fundamental research and emerging quantum technologies. Preparing large-scale GHZ states in lattice spin systems is particularly appealing for quantum advantages, but conventional schemes face great challenges in scalability. Here we propose a universal and scalable scheme to generate large-scale GHZ-like states, which share similar entanglement and metrological properties with standard GHZ states, in lattice spin systems through global Floquet engineering. Our scheme requires only global operations and shows great advantage for large particle number. It is applicable to systems with arbitrary interaction ranges, offering a practical pathway for large-scale implementation of many-body entangled states in various systems.

Superadiabatic scheme for fast generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state of three superconducting qubits

Wan‐Rang Yu, Xin Ji

With the development of quantum information processing (QIP), entangled states have been used in many important fields. One of the well-known entangled states is Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state, which provides a possibility for testing quantum mechanics against local hidden theory without using Bell’s inequality. Many schemes of generating the GHZ state have been put forward in various physical systems over the past ten years. Among these physical systems, the superconducting qubits (SQs) have the potential suitability for the integrated devices in QIP and can be controlled easily through modulating electromagnetic signals and designing level configurations. On the other hand, adiabatic passage is a typical method which is used widely to generate entanglements. However, adiabatic passage needs long evolution time to satisfy the adiabatic condition. Therefore, to speed up a slow quantum adiabatic process, a new kind of technique called " shortcuts to adiabatic passage (STAP)” has attracted much attention. The Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants and transitionless quantum driving are famous methods of STAP. But they are difficult to use in the experiment. For the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants, the driving pulses are not smoothly turned on or off and thus lead to severe impediments in experiment. For transitionless quantum driving, a direct coupling between the initial state and the target state is needed, but is too hard to obtain experimentally. In this paper, we propose a theoretical scheme for fast generating GHZ state of three superconducting qubits via superadiabatic-based shortcuts. Firstly, with the help of quantum Zeno dynamics, we obtain the effective Hamiltonian of the system, then we choose a suitable counterdiabatic Hamiltonian in the same form as the effective Hamiltonian and add it to the effective Hamiltonian in order to construct shortcuts to adiabatic passage, which can make the system evolve along one of the superadiabatic states and thus accelerate the evolution process of the system. More importantly, the superadiabatic scheme does not need an additional coupling between the initial and finial state, which ensures its high experimental feasibility. In addition, numerical simulation results show that the proposed scheme is robust against spontaneous emission, the cavity photon leakage and the dephasing of SQs.
