Abstract

Abstract A scheme is proposed to realize the non‐classical correlation between magnons and photons in a cavity optomagnonic system, which supports both photon modes and a magnon mode. Starting with the system being initially prepared in its ground state, two laser pulses successively drive corresponding optical mode. A two‐mode squeezing interaction between optical mode 1 and the magnon mode is created by the first pulse, which leads to a non‐classical correlation between photons and magnons. To verify this non‐classical correlation, the second pulse is utilized to transfer the magnon state to another optical mode, thus the correlated photon–photon pairs are generated out of the cavity. By discussing the violation of Cauchy–Schwarz inequality, based on numerical simulation, it is confirmed that non‐classical correlated photon–magnon pairs can be created in the weak coupling regime, which relaxes the requirements of experimental conditions. The result indicates that cavity optomagnonics can be a promising platform for studying magnon‐based quantum information processing.

Proposal for a Bell test in cavity optomagnonics

Hong Xie, Zhigao Shi, Le‐Wei He +3 more

We present a proposal to test the Bell inequality in the emerging field of cavity optomagnonics, where a sphere of ferromagnetic crystal supports two optical whispering gallery modes and one magnon mode. The two optical modes are driven by two laser pulses, respectively. Entanglement between the magnon mode and one of the two optical modes will be generated by the first pulse, and the state of the magnon mode is subsequently mapped into another optical mode via the second pulse. Hence correlated photon-photon pairs are created out of the cavity. A Bell test can be implemented by using these pairs, which enables us to test the local hidden-variable models at macroscopic scales. Our results show that a significant violation of the Bell inequality can be obtained in the weak-coupling regime. The violation of the Bell inequality not only verifies the entanglement between magnons and photons, but also implies that cavity optomagnonics is a promising platform for quantum information processing tasks.

Nonlinear Enhancement in Hybrid Optomagnonic Systems

Jin Yang, Bingyu Yang, Biao Xiong +2 more

ABSTRACT Photon blockade is a key quantum effect for generating single‐photon sources essential to quantum information processing. Compared with unconventional photon blockade, the conventional counterpart provides higher single‐photon generation efficiency but typically demands strong nonlinearity, which severely restricts experimental feasibility. Here, a nonlinear enhancement scheme based on a hybrid optomagnonic system is proposed. The central idea is to exploit an additional tripartite interaction among the TE mode, TM mode, and magnon that, under strong driving, induces two‐mode squeezing. Via a squeezing transformation, the effective magnon–photon coupling is exponentially enhanced, giving rise to a strong effective Kerr nonlinearity and thus an increased energy‐level detuning. Using both analytical calculations and numerical simulations of the second‐order correlation function, it is shown that the conventional photon blockade is substantially enhanced. Compared with the pure optomagnonic scheme induced by the Faraday effect, the proposed approach reduces the second‐order correlation function by more than an order of magnitude and dramatically broadens the blockade parameter window. Moreover, photon blockade is achieved even when the intrinsic coupling strength is much smaller than the cavity decay rate. These results suggest a feasible route toward high‐efficiency conventional photon blockade without strong intrinsic nonlinearities, potentially facilitating on‐chip single‐photon sources for scalable quantum information processing.

Dissipative dynamics of optomagnonic nonclassical features via anti-Stokes optical pulses: squeezing, blockade, anti-correlation, and entanglement

Ebrahim Ghasemian

We propose a feasible experimental model to investigate the generation and characterization of nonclassical states in a cavity optomagnonic system consisting of a ferromagnetic YIG sphere that simultaneously supports both the magnon mode and two whispering gallery modes of optical photons. The photons undergo the magnon-induced Brillouin light scattering, which is a well-established tool for the cavity-assisted manipulations of magnons as well as magnon spintronics. At first, we derive the desired interaction Hamiltonian under the influence of the anti-Stokes scattering process and then proceed to analyze the dynamical evolution of quantum statistics of photons and magnons as well as their intermodal entanglement. The results show that both photons and magnons generally acquire some nonclassical features, e.g., the strong antibunching and anti-correlation. Interestingly, the system may experience the perfect photon and magnon blockade phenomena, simultaneously. Besides, the nonclassical features may be protected against the unwanted environmental effects for a relatively long time, especially, in the weak driving field regime and when the system is initiated with a small number of particles. However, it should be noted that some fast quantum-classical transitions may occur in-between. Although the unwanted dissipative effects plague the nonclassical features, we show that this system can be adopted to prepare optomagnonic entangled states. The generation of entangled states depends on the initial state of the system and the interaction regime. The intermodal photon-magnon entanglement may be generated and pronounced, especially, if the system is initialized with low intensity even Schrödinger cat state in the strong coupling regime. The cavity-assisted manipulation of magnons is a unique and flexible mechanism that allows an interesting test bed for investigating the interdisciplinary contexts involving quantum optics and spintronics. Moreover, such a hybrid optomagnonic system may be used to design both on-demand single-photon and single-magnon sources and may find potential applications in quantum information processing.

Magnon-photon cross-correlations via optical nonlinearity in cavity magnonical system

Yujie Fang, Wenxue Zhong, Guangling Cheng +1 more

We propose an alternative scheme to achieve the cross-correlations between magnon and photon in a hybrid nonlinear system including two microwave cavities and one yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere, where two cavities nonlinearly interact and meanwhile one of cavities couples to magnon representing the collective excitation in YIG sphere via magnetic dipole interaction. Based on dispersive couplings between two cavities and between one cavity and magnon with the larger detunings, the nonlinear interaction occurs between the other cavity and magnon, which plays a crucial role in generating quantum correlations. By analyzing the second-order correlation functions via numerical simulations and analytical calculations, the remarkable nonclassical correlations are existent in such a system, where the magnon blockade and photon antibunching could be obtainable on demand. The scheme we present is focused on the magnon-photon cross-correlations in the weak coupling regime and relaxes the requirements of experimental conditions, which may have potential applications in quantum information processing in the hybrid system.

Magnon heralding in cavity optomagnonics

Victor A. S. V. Bittencourt, Verena Feulner, Silvia Viola Kusminskiy

In the emerging field of cavity optomagnonics, photons are coupled coherently to magnons in solid-state systems. These new systems are promising for implementing hybrid quantum technologies. Being able to prepare Fock states in such platforms is an essential step towards the implementation of quantum information schemes. We propose a magnon-heralding protocol to generate a magnon Fock state by detecting an optical cavity photon. Due to the peculiarities of the optomagnonic coupling, the protocol involves two distinct cavity photon modes. Solving the quantum Langevin equations of the coupled system, we show that the temporal scale of the heralding is governed by the magnon-photon cooperativity and derive the requirements for generating high fidelity magnon Fock states. We show that the nonclassical character of the heralded state, which is imprinted in the autocorrelation of an optical ``read'' mode, is only limited by the magnon lifetime for small enough temperatures. We address the detrimental effects of nonvacuum initial states, showing that high fidelity Fock states can be achieved by actively cooling the system prior to the protocol.

Entanglement and Asymmetric Steering Between Distant Magnon and Mechanical Modes in an Optomagnonic‐Mechanical System

Jing Cheng, Yu‐Mu Liu, Hong‐Fu Wang +1 more

Abstract A scheme is proposed to generate long‐distance entanglement and asymmetric steering between mechanical oscillator and magnon mode across the frequency difference of ≈10 GHz in an optomagnonic‐mechanical system composed of a magnon, a mechanical oscillator, and two cavities. The calculated results reveal that the long‐distance magnon–phonon entanglement can be achieved due to the fact that the quantum correlation of the two‐mode squeezed vacuum microwave field is successively transferred to the magnon mode and the phonon mode. Moreover, the entanglement is strong enough such that the quantum steering between magnon mode and phonon mode can be achieved in an asymmetric manner. Furthermore, the direction of quantum steering can be flexibly adjusted via changing the magnon damping rate, coupling strength, squeezing parameter, and bath temperature. The proposed scheme provides the possibility for the generation of macroscopic quantum entanglement and steering and has potential applications in quantum information processing.
