Quantum computing for data analysis in high energy physics

Andrea Delgado, Kathleen E. Hamilton, Prasanna Date +22 more

Some of the biggest achievements of the modern era of particle physics, such as the discovery of the Higgs boson, have been made possible by the tremendous effort in building and operating large-scale experiments like the Large Hadron Collider or the Tevatron. In these facilities, the ultimate theory to describe matter at the most fundamental level is constantly probed and verified. These experiments often produce large amounts of data that require storing, processing, and analysis techniques that often push the limits of traditional information processing schemes. Thus, the High-Energy Physics (HEP) field has benefited from advancements in information processing and the development of algorithms and tools for large datasets. More recently, quantum computing applications have been investigated in an effort to understand how the community can benefit from the advantages of quantum information science. In this manuscript, we provide an overview of the state-of-the-art applications of quantum computing to data analysis in HEP, discuss the challenges and opportunities in integrating these novel analysis techniques into a day-to-day analysis workflow, and whether there is potential for a quantum advantage.

World Quantum Day 2026

Monika Kaushal, Kalyan Chakravarthy Balla, Selvarangan Ponnazhagan

World Quantum Day is an international initiative dedicated to promoting public understanding of quantum science and technology.Celebrated annually on April 14, the date reflects the first three digits of Planck's constant (expressed as 4.14 × 10 -¹⁵ electronvolt-seconds).The word quantum refers to the smallest discrete unit of a physical quantity that can be exchanged or measured.Quantum science developed during the early 20th century.Pioneers such as Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, and Erwin Schrödinger developed theories explaining how energy and matter behave at atomic and subatomic scales.Medical applications of quantum mechanics include imaging such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance, and positron emission tomography; tissue imaging in microscopy, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine; drug discovery; quantum communication and cybersecurity; education and public outreach, decision-making, and the development of new computational systems. In this review, we present an updated overview of quantum computing based on an extensive literature review using the databases PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus.

ISSUE 29 ACTUAL ISSUES OF MODERN SCIENCE

This paper devoted to overview impact of quantum computing to modern cryptography and to analyze possible trends of cryptography development in the next years.Quantum computing became more popular these days and performance obtained using quantum computers promises to be extremely high. This trend causes to the security risks of current cryptographic algorithms usage without sufficient feasibility and analysis. It means that extremely high performance of quantum computers will be able to break some of existing cryptographic algorithm and produce the risk in security at all.To avoid such situation many cryptography specialists within whole world start research in the direction of so-called Post-quantum Cryptographic algorithms.Currently there are several projects performing research in this direction.Actuality of this topic is confirmed by many scientific papers in this direction. So, this paper contains overview of cryptography trends considering quantum computing coming in the nearest future.
