Abstract

Quantum phase transition and quench dynamics in the Jaynes-Cummings model with squeezed light are investigated. We find a special unitary transformation that removes the nonintegrable squeezing interaction when the qubit frequency far outweighs the field frequency. The eigenenergies and the eigenstates of the normal and superradiant phases are derived analytically. We demonstrate that the system exhibits a second-order quantum phase transition at a phase-boundary-induced nonlinearly by squeezed light. This phase boundary requires neither an ultrastrong coupling regime nor multiqubits, which lessens the difficulty of the experiment. The entanglement entropy is very close to its maximum value as the squeezing strength increases in the superradiant phase. In quench dynamics, the nonlinear relation between the residual energy and the squeezing strength is obtained analytically.

First-order quantum phase transition in the squeezed Rabi model

Jingwen Yang, Zhi‐Cheng Shi, Zhen‐Biao Yang +2 more

Abstract Quantum phase transition and entanglement in the Rabi model with a squeezed light are investigated. We find a special unitary-transformation method that removes the nonintegrable squeezing and counterrotating-wave interactions when the qubit frequency is close to the field frequency. The analytical ground state agrees well with the numerical solution. We demonstrate that the ground state exhibits a first-order quantum phase transition at a critical point induced linearly by the squeezed light. This quantum phase transition requires neither multiple qubits nor an infinite ratio of qubit frequency to field frequency, which solves a critical problem for the theory and experiment in Rabi model. As the qubit-field coupling strength increases, the ground-state entanglement reaches its maximum value at the critical point.

First-order quantum phase transition and entanglement in the Jaynes–Cummings model with a squeezed light

Chun-Qi Tang, Li-Tuo Shen

We study the quantum phase transition and entanglement in the Jaynes–Cummings model with squeezed light, utilize a special transformation method to obtain the analytical ground state of the model within the near-resonance regime, and numerically verify the validity of the analytical ground state. It is found that the ground state exhibits a first-order quantum phase transition at the critical point linearly induced by squeezed light, and the ground state entanglement reaches its maximum when the qubit-field coupling strength is large enough at the critical point.

First-order quantum phase transition in the two-qubit squeezed Rabi model

Xuan-Tong Pei, Zhi‐Cheng Shi, Li-Tuo Shen +1 more

We study the ground state of the two-qubit squeezed Rabi model. Two special transformations are found to diagonalize the system Hamiltonian when each qubit’s frequency is close to the field frequency, where both the squeezing and counterrotating-wave interactions are removed, leading to an effective integrable Hamiltonian. The analytical ground state is determined and matches with numerical solutions well for a range of squeezing strengths and qubit-field detunings in the ultrastrong-coupling regime. We demonstrate that the ground state exhibits a first-order quantum phase transition at a phase boundary linearly induced by the squeezed light. We characterize the two-qubit negativity analytically and find that its two-qubit entanglement increases with the increasing squeezing strength nonlinearly. The average photon numbers of the field mode and variances of position and momentum quadratures are also analyzed and discovered to have a nonlinear relation with the squeezing strength. Finally, we discuss the experimental scheme and realization possibility of the predicted results.

Squeezed Light Induced Symmetry Breaking Superradiant Phase Transition

Chengjie Zhu, Leilei Ping, Yaping Yang +1 more

We theoretically investigate the quantum phase transition in the collective systems of qubits in a high quality cavity, where the cavity field is squeezed via the optical parametric amplification process. We show that the squeezed light induced symmetry breaking can result in quantum phase transition without the ultrastrong coupling requirement. Using the standard mean field theory, we derive the condition of the quantum phase transition. Surprisingly, we show that there exists a tricritical point where the first- and second-order phase transitions meet. With specific atom-cavity coupling strengths, both the first- and second-order phase transition can be controlled by the nonlinear gain coefficient, which is sensitive to the pump field. These features also lead to an optical switching from the normal phase to the superradiant phase by just increasing the pump field intensity. The signature of these phase transitions can be observed by detecting the phase space Wigner function distribution with different profiles controlled by the squeezed light intensity. Such superradiant phase transition can be implemented in various quantum systems, including atoms, quantum dots, and ions in optical cavities as well as the circuit quantum electrodynamics system.

Dissecting the superradiant phase transition in the anisotropic Rabi model: Pattern competition and cavity-QED simulation

Yuan Qiu, Ke-Xiong Yan, Jun-Hao Lin +3 more

In this manuscript, we analyze the mechanism of the superradiant phase transition in the anisotropic Rabi model under the classical oscillator limit using the pattern picture. By expanding the anisotropic Rabi model Hamiltonian in operator space, we obtained three patterns, and we find that the phase transition arises from the competition between patterns. The difficulty in achieving the classical oscillator limit motivates our investigation into the quantum phase transition within a parametrically-driven Jaynes-Cummings model. This parametrically-driven Jaynes-Cummings model can reproduce the dynamics of an ultrastrong-coupling anisotropic Rabi model in a squeezed-light frame. According to the eigenenergies and eigenstates of the normal and superradiant phases of this equivalent anisotropic Rabi model, we find that the excitation energy of the normal phase and the superradiant phase vanishes at the critical point. The photon number becomes infinite beyond the critical point. These results indicate that the system undergoes a superradiant phase transition at the critical point.

Quantum phase transition and quench dynamics in the two-mode Rabi model

Li-Tuo Shen, Jingwen Yang, Zhi‐Rong Zhong +2 more

The second-order quantum phase transition and quench dynamics in the two-mode Rabi model are investigated. We propose a diagonalization approach of jointly using a beam-splitter operator and a squeezed operator for each effective low-energy Hamiltonian when the ratio of the qubit transition frequency to the oscillator frequency approximates infinity. Eigenenergy and eigenstate of the normal and superradiant phases in the system are analytically derived, demonstrating the second-order quantum phase transition at a critical point. This critical point means that the requirement of coupling strength between the qubit and two oscillators is largely loosened by joint effect of two modes when compared with the standard Rabi model. The universal scaling between residual energy and quench time from ${\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ensuremath{-}\frac{1}{3}}$ to ${\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ is confirmed.
