We present a method for the generation and coherent manipulation of pulsed quantum frequency combs. Until now, methods of preparing high-dimensional states on-chip in a practical way have remained elusive due to the increasing complexity of the quantum circuitry needed to prepare and process such states. Here, we outline how high-dimensional, frequency-bin entangled, two-photon states can be generated at a stable, high generation rate by using a nested-cavity, actively mode-locked excitation of a nonlinear micro-cavity. This technique is used to produce pulsed quantum frequency combs. Moreover, we present how the quantum states can be coherently manipulated using standard telecommunications components such as programmable filters and electro-optic modulators. In particular, we show in detail how to accomplish state characterization measurements such as density matrix reconstruction, coincidence detection, and single photon spectrum determination. The presented methods form an accessible, reconfigurable, and scalable foundation for complex high-dimensional state preparation and manipulation protocols in the frequency domain.
Fundamental notions of quantum physics are included in introductory university curricula, in physics teacher training, and even in secondary education, both in Argentina and in various other countries worldwide. Among these fundamental concepts is wave-particle duality (WPD), a key concept and a gateway to the quantum world. This paper presents a critical review of the literature on WPD in specialized journals on physics education and science education at the local, regional, and international context, aiming to gather the most relevant findings regarding its teaching and learning. Preliminary results indicate that these findings can be categorized based on their primary purpose into four categories: Teaching WPD, Learning WPD, Historical and Epistemological Reflections on WPD and Reviews on the Teaching and Learning of Quantum Physics (including WPD).
Advanced Quantum Technologies (QUTE) as a part of the prestigious Advanced journal portfolio, is a high-impact international journal disseminating the best peer-reviewed research in quantum science and technologies, including but not limited to quantum optics, quantum computing, quantum information, topological materials, superconductors, nanophotonics, quantum metrology, and micro- and nano-electromechanical systems. QUTE published 513 articles, including 418 Research Articles and 95 Reviews from established and emerging researchers since launched in late 2018 (according to Web of Science, December 03, 2023). Our listing of the most accessed articles can be found here, which illustrates the broad range of topics that have been covered by this young and multidisciplinary journal already. Moreover, the QUTE cover gallery provides a colorful graphical showcase of excellent research from the past 5 years. In this way, the journal is an important support for researchers to fulfill their mission and maximize their scientific discoveries. We would like to point you to some of the recently published highlight articles on various relevant topics, such as an inter-European quantum network (DOI 10.1002/qute.202200061), atom–photon hybrid systems (DOI 10.1002/qute.202300090), linear optical universal quantum gates (DOI 10.1002/qute.202300009), and quantum materials (DOI 10.1002/qute.202200131). Special issues on Quantum Sensing, guest-edited by Tongcang Li (Purdue University), Ren-bao Liu (Chinese University of Hong Kong), and Chong Zu (Washington University in St. Louis); Quantum Machine Learning, guest-edited by Lucas Lamata (Universidad de Sevilla) and José D. Martín-Guerrero (Universitat de València); and Photonic Quantum Technologies, guest-edited by Mohamed Benyoucef (QUTE Editorial Advisory Board, University of Kassel), are soon to follow. As a recent addition to our Editorial Advisory Board, we welcome Xinhua Peng of the University of Science and Technology of China and Kaiyou Wang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Xinhua Peng's research interest is quantum computation, quantum simulation, and quantum control using magnetic resonance technology, and Prof. Kaiyou Wang's skills are in spintronics and antiferromagnetism. The entire Advisory Board representing a wide range of research topics is listed here. Advanced Quantum Technologies offers authors the option to publish their articles Open Access, which means the articles are immediately free to read, download, and share. If you get ready to submit, please don't forget to ensure funder compliance, check eligibility for funding, and learn more about open access, which can help you compare the open-access policies of your funder or institution with the options available at Advanced Quantum Technologies and Wiley. Please also check and read about our transformative, institutional, and funder agreements available in many world regions, and discover the different options for publishing open access, copyright licenses (the alternative way to publish cost-free in QUTE), and more. We sincerely hope that you enjoy reading the articles in this scientific journal and look forward to your submissions for publication in Advanced Quantum Technologies. This special volume of Journal of Physics: Conference Series is dedicated to the proceedings of "International Conference on Quantum Science and Applications (ICQSA-2016)". The conference was organized by the Centre for Quantum Research and Applications at Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey. It was held in Eskisehir Osmangazi University Congress and Culture Centre during May 25-27, 2016 http://icqsa2016.ogu.edu.tr . It gathered actively 143 participants from different disciplines in natural and applied sciences coming from 16 different countries from all over the word. It was the first international conference in its content on the scientific research fields of quantum science and applications in Turkey. It also consisted of 12 plenary lectures and 119 contributed oral presentations covering interdisciplinary fields of research. The ICQSA-2016 conference focused on recent modern theoretical and experimental developments of quantum science in multi-disciplinary aspects of areas of mathematics, physics, statistics, chemistry, biology, computer science, electronics, informatics, medicine, education, etc. It served as an interaction platform for students, researchers, public, and private sector delegates for sharing new scientific and technological ideas on quantum applications in science and technology. The topics of the conference were: Quantum theory and quantum computing, quantum information theory and its applications, quantum statistics and its applications, quantum thermodynamics, quantum cryptography, classical and quantum symmetries, quantum calculus in science, engineering, medicine, education, etc., classical and quantum integrable systems, modeling and numerical methods in quantum systems, other modern mathematical methods in science and technology.
