Abstract

Quantum computing has become a highly discussed topic both in industry and academia, this technology is receiving a lot of attention and financial support from both governments and companies. What is sought is to build a quantum computer capable of being used in different practical applications, which would constitute a feat that would mark the beginning of a new era, the quantum era. Thanks to scientists and researchers we can get an idea of the improved impact of quantum computing on the technologies we use and the future

On the impact of quantum computing technology on future developments in high-performance scientific computing

Matthias Möller, C. Vuik

Quantum computing technologies have become a hot topic in academia and industry receiving much attention and financial support from all sides. Building a quantum computer that can be used practically is in itself an outstanding challenge that has become the ‘new race to the moon’. Next to researchers and vendors of future computing technologies, national authorities are showing strong interest in maturing this technology due to its known potential to break many of today’s encryption techniques, which would have significant and potentially disruptive impact on our society. It is, however, quite likely that quantum computing has beneficial impact on many computational disciplines. In this article we describe our vision of future developments in scientific computing that would be enabled by the advent of software-programmable quantum computers. We thereby assume that quantum computers will form part of a hybrid accelerated computing platform like GPUs and co-processor cards do today. In particular, we address the potential of quantum algorithms to bring major breakthroughs in applied mathematics and its applications. Finally, we give several examples that demonstrate the possible impact of quantum-accelerated scientific computing on society.

The Impact of Quantum Computing on Artificial Intelligence: An Overview

Marwah Naeem Hassooni

Quantum computing is one of the emerging technologies that support and improved the performance of classical computers which have contributed significantly to scientific achievements over time. With its ability to create states that scale exponentially with the number of qubits through superposition and entanglement, quantum computing has demonstrated promise in addressing large, complex problems. To make quantum applications a reality, numerous research communities and companies are engaged in this endeavor. A rising star in the world of new subjects would be artificial intelligence. The purpose of this investigation is to present a broad outline of quantum computing, probing into its positives, negatives, potentials and threats in the light of this new subject — so that we can push our understanding on how artificial intelligence dovetails with quantum computations. This work paves way for future explorations and enhancements— drawing significance from untapped reservoirs between these two domains, we propose will drive us into an exciting frontier era!.

The Future of Quantum Computing: A Review of Potential Impacts on IT Industry

Bukky Okojie Eboseremen, Babawale Patrick Okare, Tope David Aduloju +2 more

Quantum computing represents a paradigm shift in information processing, promising unprecedented computational power and the ability to solve complex problems that are currently beyond the reach of classical computers. This Review provides a concise overview of the potential impacts of quantum computing on the Information Technology (IT) industry, exploring key advancements, challenges, and transformative possibilities. Quantum computing leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform computations in ways that classical computers cannot emulate. This review examines the potential ramifications for the IT industry, addressing crucial aspects shaping the future of quantum computing. The impacts on cryptography, a cornerstone of IT security, are discussed, as quantum computers have the potential to break widely used encryption algorithms, necessitating the development of quantum-resistant cryptographic solutions. Additionally, the Review delves into the optimization of complex problem-solving tasks, such as optimization problems and machine learning algorithms, offering a glimpse into the transformative potential of quantum computing in accelerating data analysis and decision-making processes. Challenges in realizing the full potential of quantum computing, including error correction, qubit stability, and hardware development, are also explored. As quantum computers are still in the nascent stages of development, addressing these challenges is imperative for harnessing their true capabilities. The Review concludes by highlighting the collaborative efforts of industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers in advancing quantum computing technologies. Initiatives and investments are underway to develop scalable and commercially viable quantum hardware and software, signaling the beginning of a new era in information processing. In summary, this Review provides a snapshot of the evolving landscape of quantum computing and its potential impacts on the IT industry. As quantum technologies continue to mature, their transformative influence on cryptography, problem-solving tasks, and computational capabilities is poised to reshape the IT industry, prompting stakeholders to adapt and capitalize on the quantum computing revolution.

Quantum computing-a revolution-current updates and challenges

Bhavana P. Butey, Manisha Upasani

Quantum computing technology is in an evolutionary stage with the active involvement of more than 600 renowned companies and almost 30 national laboratories and government agencies worldwide as per the report published by The Quantum Insider. The efficacy of any emerging technology is assessed through three factors: time, cost, and quality. Parallel computing is possible in quantum computers due to superposition and entanglement of qubits which offers exceptional speed advantage in cracking complex problems. Thus the two requirements of time and cost are fulfilled. However, the quality aspect is lagging on account of a few constraints. This technology is poised to become a disruptive technology as a lot of research and development activities are being carried out globally to improve the quality and accuracy of the results to acceptable standards. In the next decade, this exotic technology will transform the entire industry and turbocharge innovation globally.

Quantum Computing

Volker Lang

Quantum computing is the first digital support technology we explore in this book in more detail. It is sometimes portrayed as brilliant scientists exploring the most obscure natural phenomena in exotic laboratories and aiming to build very powerful science fiction supercomputers that are practically capable of doing anything. But this public perception has been changing lately since various tech companies around the world have invested in this technology to apply it to real-life business problems and explore potential use cases. Among them are Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Honeywell, for instance, just to mention a few pioneers in this ongoing field of industrial research. They frequently report on their latest achievements, highlight current business applications, and emphasize the great prospects of this digital technology. Even The New York Times picked up this trend lately and described quantum computing as one of the most “jazziest and most mysterious concepts of modern science” [1].
