Abstract

Abstract Analyzing wireless communication performances by using information-theoretic results is of practical importance. In this paper, first, an achievable secrecy rate region and an outer bound on the secrecy capacity region for the discrete alphabet and memoryless wiretap channel with side information non-causally known at the transmitter are obtained. Then, by extending the results to the continuous alphabet wireless wiretap channel and by deriving a closed-form expression on the secrecy coverage region (SCR), as a remarkable wireless performance factor, impact of side information on the SCR is analyzed and it is shown that side information increases the SCR as expected intuitively. Numerical evaluation of theoretical results is done finally.

Analysis of side information impact on the physical layer security performances in wireless wiretap channel

Saeid Pakravan, Ghosheh Abed Hodtani

Abstract Information‐theoretic analysis of the communication systems performances is of practical and theoretical importance. In this article, we study side information impact on physical layer security in a Rayleigh fading wiretap channel by deriving closed‐form expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC), secrecy outage probability (SOP), secrecy coverage region (SCR), and specifically, the asymptotic behavior of SOP. The results, while including previous works as special cases, show that side information has positive effects over ASC and SOP, and also, it increases the SCR, as expected intuitively. Numerical evaluations have been done to support the claims.

Impact of The Correlation Between Channel Input And Side Information On Physical Layer Security Performances of Wireless Wiretap Channel

Saeid Pakravan, Ghosheh Abed Hodtani

Abstract In this paper, a discrete memoryless wiretap channel with non-causal side information known at the encoder is considered. We (i) characterize capacity region for the Gaussian version of this channel by considering correlation between channel input and side information available at the transmitter; (ii) analyze the impact of correlation on the performance of physical layer security in a Rayleigh fading wiretap channel by deriving closed-form expressions on the average secrecy capacity (ASC) and secrecy outage probability (SOP). Further, to more show the impact of side information, asymptotic behavior of SOP is studied. Numerical evaluation of theoretical results is done finally.

Some New Results on the Wiretap Channel with Side Information

Bin Dai, Yuan Luo

In this paper, the model of wiretap channel has been reconsidered for the case that the main channel is controlled by channel state information (side information), and it is available at the transmitter in a noncausal manner (termed here noncausal side information) or causal manner (termed here causal side information). Inner and outer bounds are derived on the capacity-equivocation regions for the noncausal and causal manners, and the secrecy capacities for both manners are described and bounded, which provide the best transmission rate with perfect secrecy. Moreover, for the case that the side information is available at the transmitter in a memoryless manner (termed here memoryless side information), both the capacity-equivocation region and the secrecy capacity are determined. The results of this paper extend the previous work on wiretap channel with noncausal side information by providing an outer bound on the capacity-equivocation region. In addition, we find that the memoryless side information can not help to obtain the same secrecy capacity as that of the causal case, and this is different from the well known fact that the memoryless manner can achieve the capacity of the channel with causal side information.

On the Secrecy Rate Region of Multiple-Access Wiretap Channel With Noncausal Side Information

Amir Sonee, Ghosheh Abed Hodtani

In this paper, we study the two transmitter multiple-access channel (MAC) with noncausal side information at one (single-sided) or both (two-sided) of the encoders in the presence of an external wiretapper (WT) and under individual and collective secrecy constraints. Our work consists of four parts. First, we consider the discrete memoryless (DM-MAC-WT) case of the model and derive inner and outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region under both of the secrecy constraints. Second, the results are extended to the Gaussian memoryless case [Gaussian multiple-access channel WT (GMAC-WT)] in detail and are used to illustrate numerically that the secrecy rate region is enlarged by increasing the power of the interference signal which is known noncausally at the encoder. Third, we analyze the strong interference regime as an important regime in GMAC with side information and show that under collective secrecy constraint, we can achieve the secrecy capacity region of the single-sided channel asymptotically for a special case in which the signal and noise powers satisfy specific constraints. To the best of our knowledge, this capacity region is the first one obtained for GMAC-WT. Finally, we show that our results include previous works as its special cases for both the single-sided and two-sided channel models.

FGM-Copula based Analysis of Physical Layer Security in Wireless Wiretap Channels with UAV Transmitter and Two-Sided Side Information

Hana Asghari, Ghosheh Abed Hodtani

Abstract Physical layer security, as an important practical concept, in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted channels has been studied in the literature, where, impacts of side information and or correlation of wireless channel coefficients have not been considered. In this paper, having briefly reviewed (the discrete memoryless side information channel, physical secure rate and copula function theory), a continuous alphabet wiretap channel with UAV transmitter and two-sided side information is considered. For this channel, we obtain closed form expressions for secrecy capacities in two cases: (i) Gaussian channel with constant channel coefficients; (ii) Gaussian wireless channel with correlated coefficients by using FGM copula function to describe the correlations. Through obtained secrecy rates, we analyse the impacts of (a) UAV situation for transmitter (b) two-sided non-causal side information and (c) correlation between channel coefficients on the achievable rates. Then, analytical results are numerically assessed across various correlation structures, both with and without side information. The findings demonstrate that correlated fading adversely impacts security performance in different scenarios, while the presence of side information enhances security performance.
