Optimization of error probability in quantum control communication processes

Masanori Ohya, Hiroki Suyari

Abstract Rigorous study of optical communication processes has become interesting since around 1970. Especially, quantum information theory has been developed in both mathematics and engineering. In this paper, by controlling the energy associated with a quantum input state, we obtain an optimal solution (optimal state, optical modulation, etc.) giving the minimum value to the error probability in the attenuation optical communication process. For instance, we find some relations between the energy constraint of the input state and the optimal error probabilities in each modulation.

Energy and bandwidth efficiency optimization of quantum-enabled optical communication channels

M. V. Jabir, N. Fajar R. Annafianto, Ivan A. Burenkov +2 more

Abstract We present a systematic study of quantum receivers and modulation methods enabling resource efficient quantum-enhanced optical communication. We introduce quantum-inspired modulation schemes that theoretically yield a better resource efficiency than legacy protocols. Experimentally, we demonstrate below the shot-noise limit symbol error rates for M ≤ 16 legacy and quantum-inspired communication alphabets using software-configurable optical communication time-resolving quantum receiver testbed. Further, we experimentally verify that our quantum-inspired modulation schemes boost the accuracy of practical quantum measurements and significantly optimize the combined use of energy and bandwidth for communication alphabets that are longer than M = 4 symbols.

The Holy Grail of quantum optical communication

Optical parametric amplifiers together with phase-shifters and beamsplitters have certainly been the most studied objects in the field of quantum optics. Despite such an intensive study, optical parametric amplifiers still keep secrets from us. We will show how they hold the answer to one of the oldest problems in quantum communication theory, namely the calculation of the optimal communication rate of optical channels.
