Algebraic structure of fermion density matrices. II

G. G. Dyadyusha, Eugene S. Kryachko

Abstract The properties of the algebraic structure of fermion density matrices are studied. The algebraic structure of a density matrix leads to a more varied and detailed classification scheme than that offered by the usual shell structure approach. Investigation of the algebraic structure of fermion density matrices by the methods of algebraic topology leads to a classification scheme based on Betti numbers.

Reduced‐density‐matrix theory and algebraic structures

Eugene S. Kryachko

Abstract A survey of our recent work on algebraic structures and reduced‐density‐matrix theory is presented. Our approach leads to a method of classifying reduced density matrices and generalizes the notion of open and closed shells in many‐body theory.

The symmetry of reduced density matrices. I. General algebraic approach and permutational symmetry

Douglas J. Klein, Robert W. Kramling

The symmetry properties of p-particle operators derived by contraction from N-particle operators which transform on the left and right as different permutational symmetries are investigated. Theorems identifying these symmetry properties are obtained in terms of conditions for N,α,β,-derivability. The relation of the p-particle operators to reduced density matrices and the implications of the theorems as regards N-representability are discussed.

Permutational Symmetry of Reduced Density Matrices

R. D. Poshusta

The usual restriction on the permutational symmetry of density matrices is removed. An Nth-order density matrix of general permutational symmetry is reduced and the symmetry of the resulting pth-order density matrix is found. This gives rise to necessary conditions for the N-representability of spin-free density matrices. We indicate the importance of these results for symmetry under the groups GL(n), U(n), and SU(n). We generalize the question of N-representability to the tensor algebra, where contraction of tensors plays the role of reduction of density matrices. Symmetry properties of the tensors are studied and density matrices are considered as special cases.

Note on the bounds and approximations to the ground state energy of N-fermion systems derived from density matrix theory

F. David Peat

Certain lower bounds to the ground state energy of N-fermion systems have been derived in the literature using the properties of reduced density matrices. It is indicated that while some good approximations to the energy may be obtained by similar consideration the rigorous lower bound expressions lie too far below the exact energy to prove generally useful.

Calculation of reduced density matrices from correlation functions

Ingo Peschel

It is shown that for solvable fermionic and bosonic lattice systems, the reduced density matrices can be determined from the properties of the correlation functions. This provides the simplest way to these quantities which are used in the density-matrix renormalization group method.
