Generation of Dark Squeezed States for Multilevel Atomic Systems

Zhan Shi-chang

Based on the scheme for generation of dark squeezed states for two-level atoms proposed by J. I. Cirac et al., the generation principle of dark squeezed states for multilevel atoms is investigated in this paper. It has been shown that for multilevel atomic systems, laser cooling can also be conducted on trapped atoms to generate dark squeezed states. Consequently, a scheme for generation of squeezed states for multilevel atomic systems is put forward.

Multiple-laser excitation of multilevel atoms

F. T. Hioe, Joseph H. Eberly

The probability of preparing multilevel atoms in high-lying levels by multiphoton excitation using one or more laser pulses can be increased by suitably tailoring the pulse amplitudes and frequencies. Few, if any, systematic methods designed specifically for multilevel excitation have been proposed. We present in this paper specific pulses and phase modulations which give specific degrees of inversion of multilevel atoms in analytic form.
