Securing IOT Network through Quantum Key Distribution

Published Jul 26, 2019• 8 citations

Abstract

Current cryptographic techniques broadly specified as conventional cryptography is solely based on the solidity of the mathematical concepts. The advancements in quantum computing can use reversible logic to compute the keys and easily break the existing security in conventional computers. From the analysis of the network structure of Internet of Things (IOT) it is very clear that the entire backbone of the system would collapse if it is attacked or hacked. IOT is a wireless technology that connects “ANYTHING” around to the Internet. IOT is a revolution which should be protected from the attackers as it would lead to several losses which could even be fatal. Hence a strong provision for securing users data in IOT is a real challenge. This paper is attempted to review the fundamentals of Quantum Key Distribution, security aspects for IOT and to address how QKD can be used to secure a IOT system. The challenge encountered is to increase the range and increase the transmission rate of data in QKD systems and to check for a possible solution to adhere these systems with existing information security solutions

Quantum IOT: Security and Communication Aspects

Vinay Kumar

Conventional cryptography relies only on the robustness of mathematical principles. Advancements in quantum computing may use reversible logic to calculate keys and easily compromise the security of traditional computers. The examination of the Internet of Things (IoT) network topology reveals that the whole system's backbone would disintegrate if subjected to an assault or hacking attempt. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a wireless technology that links various objects to the Internet. The Internet of Things (IoT) represents a revolution that must be safeguarded from attackers, since breaches might result in significant, perhaps deadly losses. Consequently, ensuring robust protection of user data in IoT is a significant problem. This study aims to explore the principles of Quantum Key Distribution, examine security considerations for the Internet of Things, and discuss the use of QKD in securing IoT systems. The problem faced is to enhance the range and transmission rate of data in Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems, while also exploring potential methods to integrate these systems with current information security measures.

Quantum Cryptography for Secure Data Transmission in IoT Networks

Sulakshana Sagar Malwade

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) has introduced significant security challenges, especially in safeguarding sensitive data transmitted across vast networks. Traditional cryptographic methods, though widely used, face increasing vulnerabilities in light of advancements in quantum computing. This research explores the application of quantum cryptography, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), to secure data transmission in IoT networks. Quantum cryptography offers a revolutionary approach by utilizing the principles of quantum mechanics, ensuring communication channels are resistant to eavesdropping and quantum attacks. Despite its promise, integrating quantum cryptography into resource-constrained IoT environments presents several technical challenges. This paper examines current quantum cryptographic techniques, their feasibility for IoT applications, and proposed solutions for overcoming integration hurdles. Case studies of real-world implementations and experimental results are discussed to highlight the effectiveness of these methods. The findings suggest that quantum cryptography, while still in its infancy for IoT, has the potential to provide robust security solutions in future networks.

Internet of Things Security Analysis of Networks using Quantum Key Distribution

Sayantan Gupta, Chayan Dutta

Objectives: To identify the drawback of the Internet of Things Networks and find a suitable solution of the case by Quantum Key Distribution. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Analyzing the Network system of the IoT we see that if the system goes in wrong hands it could mislead the entire backbone of the structure. While using Quantum Key Distribution we can easily identify the Eve in the system. So by analyzing the algorithm we can generate series of patterns which can serve us to protect the system network effectively. Findings: The paper defines the various problems in the IoT network and gives the solutions which have been proposed using Quantum Key Distribution, as IoT is the revolution which if gone to the wrong hands, will cause severe loss in lives and as well as in the economy. Application/Improvements: The algorithm proposed can be implemented in any existing IoT structure to evaluate and put forward any misconduct in the system. Keywords: Data Mining, Internet of Things, Quantum Cryptography, Quantum Key Distribution, Qubits

QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION FOR SECURE INTERNET OF THINGS: A COMPREHENSIVE SURVEY

Geetha Rani S, Dr. F. LEENA VINMALAR

The fast development of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has introduced unknown security issues in the networked systems. Classical cryptography methods are restricted to sophisticated attacks and the emerging threat of quantum computing. This survey paper presents the overview of quantum key distribution (QKD) use in IoT settings, systematic review of the research trend, technological solutions, challenges, and future developments. We examine more than 150 published in-between 2018-2025 research papers, categorize the current QKD-IoT solutions, and uncover gaps in the research. We find that hybrid QKD-classical cryptography designs provide promise of realistic IoT implementation and edge-based quantum gateways emerge as an architecture of scalable implementation.
