Control of resonance enhanced multi-photon ionization photoelectron spectroscopy by phase-shaped femtosecond laser pulse

Shian Zhang, Chenhui Lu, Tianqing Jia +2 more

In this paper, we theoretically demonstrate that the (2+1+1) resonance enhanced multi-photon ionization photoelectron spectroscopy in sodium atom can be effectively controlled by shaping femtosecond laser pulse with a π phase step modulation in weak laser field, involving its total photoelectron energy, maximal photoelectron intensity, and spectroscopic bandwidth. Our results show that the total photoelectron energy can be suppressed but not enhanced, the maximal photoelectron intensity can be enhanced and also suppressed, and the photoelectron spectroscopy can be tremendously narrowed. These theoretical results can provide a feasible scheme to achieve the high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy and study the excited state structure in atomic and molecular systems.

Theory of Simultaneous Observation of Photoelectron and Emitted X-ray Photon in X-ray Emission Spectroscopy and Their Entanglement

Ryo B. Tanaka, Takayuki Uozumi

We have theoretically investigated the character of entanglement between photoelectrons and emitted X-ray photons in XEPECS process which is a coincidence spectroscopy of photoelectrons and emitted X-ray photons. In the calculations, we used a three-electron sp-model consisting of an inner-shell 1s orbital and an outer-shell 2p orbital. We found that entanglement occurs between spin of photoelectrons and linear polarization of emitted X-ray photons, using the wavefunction of the whole system including the photon as well as the electron system. Furthermore, we calculated the degree of entanglement and found that it shows maximum at a particular angle of emitted X-ray photon.

Relaxation of Cs atomic polarization at surface coatings characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Kotaro Kushida, Toshihiro Niwano, Takemasa Moriya +4 more

Abstract Paraffin coatings on glass slides were investigated through both X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and spin relaxation measurement for cesium (Cs) vapor. The components of the glass substrate, such as silicon and oxygen, existed in the XPS spectra of the coated slides, indicating the imperfection of the prepared paraffin coatings. The substrate was not observed after the annealing of the coatings in Cs vapor, which is known as a “ripening” process for spin relaxation measurement. We found a general trend that effective anti-spin relaxation performance requires high paraffin and low Cs coverage on the surface. We also examined a type of diamond-like carbon film, anticipating the effect of anti-spin relaxation; our attempts have failed to date.
