Dynamics in a coupled-cavity array

C. D. Ogden, E. K. Twyeffort Irish, M. S. Kim

The dynamics of a system composed of two coupled cavities, each containing a single two-level atom, is studied over a wide range of detuning and coupling values. A description of the field in terms of delocalized modes reveals that the detuning between the atoms and these modes is controlled by the coupling between the cavities; this detuning in turn governs the nature of the dynamics. If the atoms are highly detuned from both delocalized field modes, the dynamics become dispersive and an excitation may be transferred from the first atom to the second without populating the field. In the case of resonance between the atoms and one of the delocalized modes, state transfer between the atoms requires intermediate excitation of the field. Thus, the interaction between the two atoms can be controlled by adjusting the coupling between the cavities.

Dynamics of a two-atom Raman coupled model interacting with two quantized cavity fields

Christopher C. Gerry, Huaqing Huang

We describe the quantum dynamics of a two-atom Raman coupled model interacting with two quantized cavity electromagnetic fields as an extension of the previously discussed single-atom Raman coupled model [C. C. Gerry and J. H. Eberly, Phys. Rev. A 42, 6805 (1990)]. In particular we study the atomic-population dynamics and the dynamics of the photon statistics in the two cavity modes. We present evidence of cooperative effects.

Coherent Operation of the Collective Atomic Modes in the Coupled Cavity System

Zhi‐Rong Zhong

We study the dynamics of a coupled cavity system composed of three cavities, and propose a scheme for the coherent manipulation of two collective atomic modes by a control atom. In the scheme, the control atom and two atomic ensembles interact with the local cavity mode, while the control atom is externally driven by a laser field. We show that under certain conditions, the dynamics of the whole system are reduced to an effective coherent coupling between the control atom and two collective atomic modes, while the cavity fields are only virtually excited. We also study the dynamics of the entanglement generation of the two distant collective atomic modes. The scheme provides a potential application for quantum-state engineering and quantum control.
