It is proved that two types of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation in the formalation of thermo field dynamics, which may be regarded as equivalent to the Liouville-von Neumann equation, are connected with each other under a certain unitary transformation in the tilde-space.

On the relationship between thermo field dynamics and quantum statistical mechanics

The relationship between two approaches to the study of non-equilibrium field theories, namely quantum statistical mechanics and thermo field dynamics, is investigated. The formalism of superoperators acting in the Liouville space of density matrices is used to provide a detailed translation between the two approaches. It is found that thermo field dynamics is exactly equivalent to a restricted version of quantum statistical mechanics, in which the initial density matrix is constrained to be Gaussian. The dissipative perturbation theory developed within thermo field dynamics is translated into the language of statistical mechanics, and is found to be equivalent to that devised by the author using the statistical-mechanical closed-time-path method, except that the latter theory is not restricted to Gaussian initial states.

QUANTUM STOCHASTIC LIOUVILLE EQUATION OF ITO TYPE

The quantum stochastic Liouville equation of Ito type is derived, for the first time, within Nonequilibrium Thermo Field Dynamics (NETFD), a unified canonical formalism for dissipative and/or stochastic fields. With the stochastic time-evolution generator of Ito type, the whole framework is inspected. Since most of the mathematical formulations of noncommutative stochastic variables are based on the equations of Ito type, the construction of the quantum stochastic Liouville equation has been highly desired. It is expected that the unified framework may provide us with a deeper insight for the mathematical foundation of quantum stochastic variables as well as for the physical one.

Thermofield Dynamics of Time-Dependent Boson and Fermion Systems

We formulate the thermofield dynamics for time-dependent systems by combining the Liouville-von Neumann equation, its invariant operators, and the basic notions of thermofield dynamics. The new formulation is applied to time-dependent bosons and fermions by using the time-dependent annihilation and creation operators that satisfy the Liouville-von Neumann equation. It is shown that the thermal state is the time- and temperature-dependent vacuum state and a general formula is derived to calculate the thermal expectation value of operators.

On the conection between the Liouville equation and the Schrodinger equation

We derive a classical Schrodinger type equation from the classical Liouville equation in phase space. The derivation is based on a Wigner type Fourier transform of the classical phase space probability distribution, which depends on an arbitrary constant $α$ with dimension of action. In order to achieve this goal two requirements are necessary: 1) It is assumed that the classical probability amplitude $Ψ(x,t)$ can be expanded in a complete set of functions $Φ_n(x)$ defined in the configuration space; 2) the classical phase space distribution $W(x,p,t)$ obeys the Liouville equation and is a real function of the position, the momentum and the time. We show that the constant $α$ appearing in the Fourier transform of the classical phase space distribution, and also in the classical Schrodinger type equation, has its origin in the spectral distribution of the vacuum zero-point radiation, and is identified with the Planck's constant $\hbar$.

Nonequilibrium quantum dynamics of second order phase transitions

We use the so-called Liouville--von Neumann (LvN) approach to study the nonequilibrium quantum dynamics of time-dependent second order phase transitions. The LvN approach is a canonical method that unifies the functional Schr\"odinger equation for the quantum evolution of pure states and the LvN equation for the quantum description of mixed states of either equilibrium or nonequilibrium. As nonequilibrium quantum mechanical systems we study a time-dependent harmonic and an anharmonic oscillator and find the exact Fock space and density operator for the harmonic oscillator and the nonperturbative Gaussian Fock space and density operator for the anharmonic oscillator. The density matrix and the coherent, thermal, and coherent-thermal states are found in terms of their classical solutions, for which the effective Hamiltonians and equations of motion are derived. The LvN approach is further extended to quantum fields undergoing time-dependent second order phase transitions. We study an exactly solvable model with a finite smooth quench and find the two-point correlation functions. Because of the spinodal instability of long wavelength modes, the two-point correlation functions lead to the ${t}^{1/4}$-scaling relation during the quench and the Cahn-Allen scaling relation ${t}^{1/2}$ after completion of the quench. Further, after the finite quench the domain formation shows a time-lag behavior at the cubic power of the quench period. Finally we study the time-dependent phase transition of a self-interacting scalar field.
