The maximum mutual information without coding for binary quantum-state signals

Masao Osaki, Osamu Hirota, Masashi Ban

The maximum mutual information without coding is investigated for binary quantum-state signals. The necessary condition for detection operators to represent the information optimal detection is satisfied for M-ary symmetric quantum-state signals by the detection operators derived from the quantum minimax strategy while its purpose is a minimization of the error probability. The true maximum mutual information is numerically analysed for the binary case.

Property of Mutual Information for M-ary Quantum-State Signals

Tsuyoshi Sasaki Usuda, Ichi Takumi, Ryohei Nakano +2 more

Numerical solutions of maximum mutual information for 3-ary phase-shift keyed coherent-state signals and 3-ary real-symmetric (lifted trine) signals, which are linearly independent signals, are shown. A condition for achieving maximum mutual information for M -ary linearly independent signals is also discussed.

Quantum Annealing based Feature Selection

Daniel Pranjić, Bharadwaj Chowdary Mummaneni, Christian Tutschku

Feature selection is crucial for enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of machine learning models.Calculating the optimal feature set for maximum mutual information (MI) and conditional mutual information (CMI) remains computationally intractable for large datasets on classical computers, even with approximation methods. This study employs a Mutual Information Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization (MIQUBO) formulation, enabling its solution on a quantum annealer. To showcase its real-world applicability, we apply MIQUBO to forecasting the price of used excavators. Our results indicate that using the MIQUBO approach there might be an improvement in the prediction of machine learning models for datasets, with a smaller MI concentration.
