One- and two-photon lasers with injected signal in a high-Q fabry-Pérot cavity

V. Espinosa, Germán J. de Valcárcel, Eugenio Roldán

Explicit models are derived for good cavity one- and two-photon lasers with an injected signal in a Fabry-Pérot cavity. The steady solutions and their stability properties are obtained analytically and compared with the corresponding ring cavity model ones. Only quantitative differences between both types of cavities are found. In particular we show that (i) the Fabry-Pérot cavity reduces significantly the domain of self-pulsing with respect to the ring cavity, and for the two-photon laser case (ii) larger output can be extracted from a Fabry-Pérot cavity than from a ring cavity under certain conditions, something impossible in free-running lasers. We conclude that ring cavity models are sensible models for describing qualitatively Fabry-Pérot experimental configurations.

Parallel secure key distribution based on injection-wavelength-shift keying of Fabry-Pérot lasers

Hua Gao, Yuanyuan Guo, Pengfa Chang +2 more

Secure key distribution based on chaos synchronization has attracted more and more attention due to its high-speed and multi-dimensional security. However, the distribution rate is constrained by the synchronization recovery time, remaining lower than the requirements of modern communication systems. Here, we proposed and simulated a parallel key distribution scheme based on injection-wavelength-shift keying chaos synchronization of Fabry-Pérot lasers. Synchronization can be achieved when the wavelengths of the injection signals are the same. The linewidth of the injection signal covers two modes of the Fabry-Pérot lasers, and then two single-mode laser signals can be generated through the subsequent single-mode filtering to be used as independent entropy sources. The random key sequences extracted from the single-mode signals are theoretically consistent when synchronized, thus the parallel secure key distribution is realized. Moreover, the Fabry-Pérot lasers are not equipped with a feedback loop, so the synchronization recovery time is only around 150 ps. Due to the benefits of the parallel key distribution and the shortened synchronization recovery time, the distribution rate is increased to 670.97 Mbit/s under the same-frequency extraction method and to 7.64 Gbit/s under the frequency-multiplication extraction method. This scheme provides a candidate for higher-speed physical key distribution.

Optical bistability and optical storage based on injection locked Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser

Huang Biao, Yu Jin-Long, Wang Wen-Rui +5 more

All-optical bistability based on injection locked Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser (FP-LD) and its application in all-optical storage are studied in this paper. Injection locking of FP-LD is experimentally studied in this paper. The output power characteristic of injection locked FP-LD is analyzed experimentally, showing that threshold width of hysteresis loop and the extinction-ratio are influenced by the difference in the injection optical-wavelength detuning. Furthermore, 2.5 GHz optical storage with 10 Gb/s input signal is realized by reasonably setting the control signal power. The feasibility of implementing high-speed all-optical storage is verified by using the injection locked FP-LD, which shows great applicability to the field of high speed optical fiber communication.
