Dynamics of the Energy Relaxation and Decoherence of a Photon-Atom Bound State in an Anisotropic Photonic Crystal

Jing-Nuo Wu, Wen–Feng Hsieh, Hsin-Chien Huang +1 more

An atom embedded inside photonic crystals can form a photon-atom bound state if the emission frequency of the excited atom is lying inside the photonic-band gap of photonic crystals. We studied the dynamics of the energy relaxation and decoherence of a QPAB, qubit made by a photon-atom bound state in photonic crystals. Dynamics of these measurements are solved analytically through the fractional calculus which has been shown to be appropriate mathematical method for the optical systems with non-Markovian dynamics. From these dynamics, we find that the losses of energy, coherence, and information of a QPAB are inhibited. As compared with those qubits without forming photon-atom bound states, the energy relaxation and decoherence rates of these QPABs are strongly suppressed. Other systems suitable for realizing these properties are discussed.

Theory of few photon dynamics in light emitting quantum dot devices

Alexander Carmele, Marten Richter, Anna Sitek +2 more

We present a modified cluster expansion to describe single‐photon emitters in a semiconductor environment. We calculate microscopically to what extent semiconductor features in quantum dot‐wetting layer systems alter the exciton and photon dynamics in comparison to the atom‐like emission dynamics. We access these systems by the photon‐probability‐cluster‐expansion: a reliable approach for few photon dynamics in many body electron systems. As a first application, we show that the amplitude of vacuum Rabi flops determines the number of electrons in the quantum dot.

Dynamics of nonlinear photonic crystal atoms characterized by numerical simulations in a pump-probe scheme

Sheng Lan, Xiongwen Chen, Jing-Dong Chen +2 more

We investigate the dynamics of nonlinear photonic crystal (PC) atoms by use of numerical simulations in a pump-probe scheme based on a finite-difference time-domain technique. A two-dimensional nonlinear PC atom with multimode is intentionally employed for the numerical simulations. The use of the multimode PC atom makes it possible that the pump and probe waves are set at different frequencies, ensuring the clear identification of the dynamics of the nonlinear PC atom. The physical model for the dynamics of nonlinear PC atoms has been established and very good agreement between the analytical and simulation results has been achieved.
