Abstract

Quantum computers are machines that are designed to use quantum mechanics in order to improve upon classical computers by running quantum algorithms. One of the main applications of quantum computing is solving optimization problems. For addressing optimization problems we can use linear programming. Linear programming is a method to obtain the best possible outcome in a special case of mathematical programming. Application areas of this problem consist of resource allocation, production scheduling, parameter estimation, etc. In our study, we looked at the duality of resource allocation problems. First, we chose a real world optimization problem and looked at its solution with linear programming. Then, we restudied this problem with a quantum algorithm in order to understand whether if there is a speedup of the solution. The improvement in computation is analysed and some interesting results are reported.

Detecting Quantum Speedup of HHL Algorithm for Linear Programming Scenarios

Volkan Erol, Mert Side

Quantum computers are machines that are designed to use quantum mechanics in order to improve upon classical computers by running quantum algorithms. One of the main applications of quantum computing is solving optimization problems. For addressing optimization problems, we can use linear programming. Linear programming is a method to obtain the best possible outcome in a special case of mathematical programming. Application areas of this problem consist of resource allocation, production scheduling, parameter estimation, etc. In our study, we look at quantum speedup ratios of HHL Algorithm for different scenarios of linear programming. In a first scenario we look quantum speedup ratio (S(N)) as a function of phase transition and the ratio (κ) between the greatest and smallest eigenvalues of the matrix in linear equation system. As a second scenario, we investigate the changes in S(N) as a function of κ and s, which is the coefficient for defining the matrix as s-sparse.

Quantum Computing Resource Allocation Optimization Problem

Jincheng Zhang

Quantum computing holds immense promise for solving complex problems intractable for classical computers. However, realizing this potential hinges critically on efficient resource allocation. This paper addresses the optimization of resource allocation in quantum computing, specifically focusing on problems like quantum circuit design and qubit allocation. We propose a methodology leveraging optimization techniques, primarily linear and integer programming, to determine optimal resource configurations. The core claim is the development of an effective method for this type of optimization. The mechanism involves formulating the resource allocation problem as a mathematical optimization problem and utilizing established techniques to find the optimal solution. This research contributes to the burgeoning field by providing a structured approach to tackling the fundamental challenge of resource allocation, aiming for efficiency and optimality in quantum computational tasks. The primary objective is to present a framework for systematically addressing resource allocation, a critical factor in the successful deployment of quantum computing technologies.

Quantum Computation Resource Scheduling and Optimization Theory

Jincheng Zhang

This paper presents a novel theoretical framework for resource scheduling and optimization within quantum computing. The core claim is to establish a method capable of optimally allocating quantum resources based on the specific characteristics of quantum programs and the constraints imposed by hardware limitations. The proposed approach leverages linear programming and combinatorial optimization techniques to formulate a quantum computation resource scheduling model. An algorithm is designed to optimize this model, ultimately leading to efficient resource utilization. The research addresses a complex and evolving area of quantum computing, aiming to provide a foundational theory for practical quantum resource management. The key contribution lies in the development of a tailored optimization model that considers the unique demands of quantum algorithms and the inherent limitations of quantum hardware. This work lays the groundwork for future advancements in quantum computation by offering a systematic approach to resource allocation.

The Use of Algorithms and Quantum Computing to Optimization Issues

Prof. Sofia Lindgren

A new paradigm in computing, quantum computing has the ability to solve computational problems that were previously considered impossible for classical computers. Optimization problems are fundamental to many disciplines, including operations research, finance, machine learning, and logistics; this article investigates how quantum computing methods can be used to solve these problems. In order to conduct calculations in a way that is radically distinct from classical computers, quantum computers utilize quantum mechanical phenomena like entanglement and superposition. Because of this, quantum algorithms might potentially achieve exponential speedups over classical algorithms for specific optimization tasks by simultaneously exploring large solution spaces. A number of well-known quantum algorithms have been reviewed in this abstract, including Grover's algorithm and quantum annealing methods created by D-Wave Systems, among others. These algorithms aim to solve a wide variety of optimization problems, such as scheduling issues, optimization of portfolios, and combinatorial optimization. Their computational complexity, theoretical foundations, and real-world applications on existing and future quantum hardware are covered in detail.
