Abstract

Young's double slit experiments represent the mystery of quantum mechanics. To explore the mystery, varieties of the single slit, double slit, cross-double slit and 1D-grating experiments were performed, which show the universal phenomena that the interference/diffraction patterns are curved, expanded and inclined. In this article, we show novel phenomena that the diffraction patterns of the 2D-cross-grating experiments can be curved, expanded and inclined simultaneously and continuously. Those experiments provide comprehensive data for developing/testing a theoretical model.

Double Slit Experiment Still Has Much to Offer (6): Curved, Expanded and Inclined Interference Patterns ---Dynamic Double Slit/Cross-Double Slit Experiments

Peng, Hui

The significance of Young's double slit experiments was emphasized as "the only mystery [of quantum mechanics]" (Feynman). In this article, we show three novel universal phenomena of the double slit, cross-double slit and grating experiments: (1) the interference patterns can curve; (2) the interference patterns can expand; and (3) the interference patterns created by the tilt double slits can incline to the axis that is perpendicular to the axis the diaphragm rotates around. The directions of the patterns curved towards are determined by how the diaphragm rotates, i.e., clockwise or counterclockwise. To determine the directions, Right-hand rule and Left-hand rule were proposed. The magnitudes of three phenomena depend on two angles: the original angle of the double slit/crossdouble slit/grating on the diaphragm relative to the rotation axis and the angle the diaphragm rotates. We derived the formular for the expansion of the patterns, and the formular for the inclination angle of patterns. The behaviors of photons are determined by: (1) the orientation of the double slit; (2) which axis the diaphragm rotating around; (3) the direction of rotation, i.e., clockwise or counterclockwise; (4) the angle of the rotation. The Feynman's mystery of the double slit is more mysterious.

Curved, expanded and inclined patterns of dynamic double slit/cross‐double slit/grating experiments

Abstract Young's 1D‐double‐slit experiments have been extended to 2D‐cross‐double‐slit experiments, in which more than one 1D‐double‐slits are crossed at the same spot and each 1D‐double‐slit creates the interference pattern independently. In this article, the varieties of the double‐slit/cross‐double‐slit/grating experiments are presented. The universal novel phenomena are: (1) the interference/diffraction patterns (hereafter referred as “patterns”) are curved; (2) the patterns are expanded; and (3) the patterns created by the tilt‐double slits are inclined to the axis perpendicular to the axis the diaphragm rotates around. The directions of the patterns curved towards are determined by whether the diaphragm rotates clockwise or counter‐clockwise. To determine the directions, right‐hand rule and left‐hand rule are proposed. The degrees of the expansions depend on both the original orientation of the double slit and the angle of the diaphragm rotates. The formulars to calculate the expansion and the inclination of the patterns are derived. The experimental observations support the formulars. The novel phenomena not only make the Feynman's mystery more mysterious, but also provide the comprehensive data/information to theoretical study of the mystery of double slit experiments. Furthermore, the novel phenomena may have potential applications, for example, in antenna system. The phenomenon of the expanded Airy pattern is presented.

Novel Double Slit Experiments: Right-hand Rule and Left-hand Rule ---Interference Patterns Curved, Expanded and Inclined Simultaneously

Huei Peng

Abstract Young’s double slit experiments express the mystery of quantum mechanics. To explore the mystery, varieties of the double slit experiments were performed. In this article, we show the novel double slit experiments in which the following three phenomena emerged simultaneously: see abstract figure in the downloadable PDF.(1) the interference patterns incline towards the axis that perpendicular to the axis the diaphragm rotating around; (2) the interference patterns curved; (3) the distances between the fringes of the interference patterns expanded. To determine the direction the pattern curved towards, we propose the right-hand rule for the clockwise rotating diaphragm and the left-hand rule for the counterclockwise rotating diaphragms. Those experiments show more mysteries of the double slit and provide comprehensive data for developing/testing a theoretical model.
