Theoretical investigation of four-body interaction in the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model

Abstract

In the weak-coupling regime, we analytically investigate phase diagram of a one-dimensional half-filled extended Hubbard model with nearest neighboring four-electron interaction (Q), in addition to the usual two-electron couplings (U,V>0). The additional four-electron coupling splits independent Gaussian and spin-gap transitions and also leads to the charge-gap transition. For the positive Q, the ground state exhibits three insulating phases, charge-density-wave (CDW), spin-density-wave (SDW) and bond-spin-density-wave (BSDW). For the negative Q, the phase diagram consists of five phases, which, besides the SDW and CDW phases, contain bond-charge-density-wave (BCDW), Luttinger liquid (LL) and Luther–Emery (LE) phases.

Ground-state instabilities in a Hubbard-type chain with particular correlated hopping at non-half-filling

Weiting Chen, Jun Zhang, Hanqin Ding

At non-half-filling, a one-dimensional interacting electronic model (t–U–R) is studied analytically. The particular correlated hopping keeps particle–hole symmetry of the Hubbard model. Physically, the model involved is equivalent to an extended Hubbard chain incorporating a two-body (X) and a three-body (X˜) site-bond interactions with X˜=2X. The analysis of weak-coupling theory leads to the ground-state phase diagram, which consists of three types of metallic phases, characterized by the charge- (CDW) and spin-density-wave (SDW) and singlet-superconductivity (SS) instabilities.

Phase diagram of the Hubbard chain with symmetric density-dependent hopping

Xin Sun, Weiting Chen, Hanqin Ding

By the bosonization and renormalization-group schemes, a half-filled Hubbard chain with density-dependent hopping is investigated at weak coupling. The model involved has an electron–hole symmetry and an SO(4) symmetry. The phase diagram consists of three different phases divided by a charge transition at on-site repulsion U = U c and a spin transition at U = U s , with U s = − U c = 16 π ( t c − 1 ) , including a Mott insulator with the SDW correlation, a dimerized insulator with the BCDW correlation, and a Luttinger metal with the coexisting TS and BSDW correlations. The effective three-body repulsion ( t c − 1 > 0 ) and attraction ( t c − 1 < 0 ) induce the dimerized and metallic phases, respectively. • We study a 1D Hubbard model with symmetric density-dependent hopping analytically. • We provide a theoretical scheme of realization of the BCDW and TS instabilities. • The results supplement further understanding of quantum properties of 1D correlated systems.

Insight into Nearest Neighboring Three- and Four-Electron Processes in a One-Dimensional Correlated Lattice System

Hanqin Ding, Jun Zhang

Motivated by recent experimental realization of the tunability of many-body interactions in ultracold fermionic gases trapped in optical lattices, we investigate analytically effects of nearest-neighboring diagonal three-body (T) and four-body (F) couplings on the one-dimensional conventional extended Hubbard model with on-site (U) and inter-site (V) interactions. Applying the bosonization and renormalization-group techniques, we present quantum phase diagrams at half filling and in the weak-coupling regime. The result shows that, whether the three-body or four-body effective attraction may give rise to superconducting phases in the region for repulsive U and V. Besides, the four-body coupling can lead to a bond-spin-density-wave phase for F > 0 and a bond-charge-density-wave phase for F < 0.

Phase diagram of a generalized Penson–Kolb–Hubbard chain with the occupation-dependent hopping

Jing Xia Yu, Hanqin Ding

At half filling, we study analytically a one-dimensional correlated electronic system modeled by an extended Penson–Kolb–Hubbard (PKH) chain with the occupation-dependent hopping. The modification of the electron hopping amplitude is exhibited to induce the additional correlated-hopping interactions. At weak coupling, we use the field theory to obtain ground-state phase diagram, including the SDW, BCDW, BSDW, SS and TS phases for U>0. The induced three-body attractive interaction accounts for the superconductivity absent in the usual PKH model.

Generic Mott-Hubbard phase diagram for extended Hubbard models without Umklapp scattering

Florian Gebhard, Kevin Bauerbach, Örs Legeza

We determine the ground-state phase diagram for the $1/r$-Hubbard model with repulsive nearest-neighbor interaction at half band filling using the density-matrix renormalization group method. Due to the absence of Umklapp scattering, the phase diagram displays finite regions for the three generic phases, namely, a Luttinger liquid metal for weak interactions, a Mott-Hubbard insulator for dominant Hubbard interactions, and a charge-density-wave insulator for dominant nearest-neighbor interactions. Up to moderate interaction strengths, the quantum phase transitions between the metallic and insulating phases are continuous, i.e., the gap opens continuously as a function of the interaction strength. We conclude that generic short-range interactions do not change the nature of the Mott transition qualitatively.

Intermediate bond-order-wave phase and nature of the order-to-order transition in the one-dimensional Hubbard-Holstein model

Weber, Manuel

The Hubbard-Holstein model is one of the central models that describe the competition between electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions. In one dimension and at half-filling, the interplay between an electronic spin-density wave and a phonon-driven charge-density wave is considered to stabilize an intermediate Luther-Emery liquid. Here we show that, once the extended metallic regime disappears, a narrow bond-order-wave phase emerges. We use an exact directed-loop quantum Monte Carlo method for retarded interactions to simulate system sizes of several hundred sites, necessary to observe the weak signatures of this novel phase. Our results suggest a second-order quantum phase transition between the two charge orders that only turns first-order at strong coupling. Our findings are reminiscent of the extended Hubbard model, but they are driven by competing frequency dependencies of the same dynamically-screened Hubbard interaction.
